On the town
Thursday, schools across
Atlanta will be a little bit qui¬
eter since “tween” girls will
be hoarse from screaming at
the Jonas Brothers concert at
Lakewood Amphitheatre on
Wednesday,
Last year when Hannah
Montana toured the country
setting records everywhere
she went. The Jonas Brothers
got to go along for the ride.
Their gymnastic moves
and boyish good looks were a
magical combination giving
millions of Hannah Montana
fans their first crushes.
I also noticed that mothers
were having as much fun as
their daughters.
Nick, Joe and Kevin are
the heartthrobs of the
moment and are proving their
longevity with every move.
Hot off their smash
Disney original movie,
“Camp Rock,” and their new
CD, “A Little Bit Longer,
the Jonas Brothers are a
smash preparing for a new
TV show on Disney that
should cement their stardom.
There are still a few tick¬
ets left, so if you want to
make your daughter’s week,
surprise her with tickets. You
will have a good time as well.
Joining them will be their
“Camp Rock” co-star Demi
Lovato.
This Saturday night is
going to be a true trifecta of
rock as the Stone Temple
Pilots reunion is augmented
by Black Rebel Motorcycle
Club and Tab the Band at the
Verizon Wireless
Amphitheatre at Encore Park,
Having the opportunity to
see Scott Weiland (vocals)
reunited with brothers Robert
and Dean DeLeo (bass/gui
tar), and Eric Kretz (drums,
percussion) is an amazing
f

treat.
In 1992, the San Diego
based Stone Temple Pilots hit
pay dirt with their first album
“Core,” producing several big
hits including “Sex Type
Thing,” “Plush,” “Wicked
Garden,” “Creep” and “Dead
& Bloated,
Four albums later they
reached megaband status,
before imploding in 2003.
Wielend joined super
group Velvet Revolver, while
the DeLeo brothers formed
Army of Anyone,
I have seen both bands
several times since, and
while each experience was
great, none of the shows
compared to the STP con¬
cert.
i* Big Empty,” “Vaseline,”
‘ - Crackerman,” “Interstate
Love Song” and “Coma” are
mainstays of the current tour.
However, STP is only one
of three reasons to make the
short trip over to the Verizon
Amphitheatre.
I have loved Black Rebel
Motorcycle Club, out of San
Francisco, since 2001 when
they released their self-titled
debut.
The band consists of Peter
Hayes and Robert Levon

singer Michael Been) who
trade off vocals and guitar,
Leah Shapiro plays drums.
I first saw them at the
Roxy in 2004 and the venue
seemed perfect for their
Zeppelin-esque rock mixed
with blues and folk.
However, their fourth CD,
.. Baby 81,” just screams for
outdoor rock, so I can’t wait
to check them out at the
Verizon.
Kicking off the night will
be Tab the Band, which fea¬
tures Tony and Adrian Perry
(sons of Aerosmith Guitarist
Joe Perry) and drummer Ben
Tileston, who are hot on the
heels of their second CD
»- Long Weekend.
I am a huge fan of these
guys, and their sound isn’t far
off from their father’s early
material.
I am telling you, you will
love Stone Temple Pilots, but
Tab the Band and Black
Rebel Motorcycle Club are
going to blow you away.

I went to the Nine Inch
Nails show on Wednesday
night expecting a good time,
but I had no idea how great
the show would be.
Stepping up to headline
the Arena at Gwinnett, NIN
mastermind Trent Reznor put
on his usual intense perform
ance — taking his electronic
rock to the next level with the
most elaborate multimedia
set I have seen short of the
Blue Man Group.
Reznor has become a
master at creating what can
only be called performance
art.
The show started on a
deceptively empty stage play¬
ing a few cuts from the new
release “The Slip.
Since the album is free at
the band’s Web site,
www.nin.com, everyone in
the crowd knew the words. It
was a testament to the fact
that the Internet is a real
threat to the music business.

After a few songs, a giant
LED curtain descended and
the band lined up at the front
of the stage with a dazzling
display of LED magic aug
menting their every beat.
The stage then trans¬
formed every few songs —
video screens rising from the
ceiling, lightsabers dangling
from the ceiling, video pro
jection increasing in com
plexity with each song,
As they played cuts from
their instrumental release
M Ghosts,” the video would
obscure the band and then
form transparent holes to
show Reznor and company
play through the screen in a
Pink Floyd-worthy effect.
Fist pumping anthems
Terrible Lie,” “Closer,” and
■ Head Like A Hole” kept
fans on their feet and of
course the melodic “Hurt 71
was a highlight of the
evening,
The two hour show con
tained an amazing 29 song
set list, with sixteen cuts
from more recent
albums.
Each song was a melodic
and visual masterpiece, and
as always, Reznor blew away
all expectations and delivered
something brand new.
It’s 2008 folks, and Trent
Reznor gets it.
Don’t forget about
tonight’s Styx and Boston
rock show at the Verizon
Wireless Amphitheatre at
Encore Park — it’s a sure bet
for a great night on the town.
