Seminar for coupon lovers
Valentine’s Day is
almost here, and so are the
rows of chocolates, roses,
teddy bears and conversa¬
tion hearts in grocery
stores. Many women out
there may want to smack
me for this, but I’ve never
been a fan of flowers as
gifts. Maybe it’s because 1
have pretty bad allergies
and flowers seem to make
me sneeze. Maybe
because no matter how
beautiful the bouquet is
when it arrives, within a
matter of days I manage to
make it wilt. Or maybe,
just maybe, I can’t help
but think that the money
spent on overpriced flow¬
ers surely could have gone
to better use.
1 know, 1 know. Not
exactly romantic. But no
matter your opinion of
flowers, 1 think we can all
agree that as yet another
gift-giving holiday arrives,
there seem to be more tac¬
tics than usual to get us to
spend our hard-earned
money. In an attempt to
buffer this pressure to
spend. I’d like to talk
about some ways to save.

Extension has a new edu¬
cational initiative called
Georgia CASH, or
Consumers Acquiring
Savings Habits. It’s
designed to help con¬
sumers choose to replace
spending habits with sav¬
ings habits.
From establishing an
emergency fund to com¬
parison shopping to pay¬
ing down/eliminating debt,
there are plenty of savings
habits that this initiative
will be targeting. Your
goal will be to pick the
one(s) that suit your fami¬
ly best.
Research has shown that
savings is not about
income. Many moderate
and upper-income families
who could easily afford to
set money aside save little
or nothing. Additionally, a
surprising number of low
income workers have
managed to accumulate
considerable wealth
through a habit of regular
savings. It comes down to
making that ever-impor
tant choice to save instead
of spend.

tive, we’ve joined with the
