Shawn Brown, director of the No Longer Bound Thrift Store, talks about
moving the store to its new location on Dahlonega Highway.
FROM 1C
Thrifty: Grand opening Feb. 25
He noted the new site
needed some changes,
since it was designed to
accommodate several dif¬
ferent businesses, rather
than one large one.
Brown said improve¬
ments to the facility also
included flooring and light¬
ing to make it have more of
an upscale retail feel.
“We walked into a lot of
different [thrift stores] and
they were all kind of blah
and boring,” he said. "We
wanted to build an atmo¬
sphere that people would
like to come to."
The store held a “soft
opening” on Jan. 16, but a
grand opening celebration
is planned for Feb. 25.
Howard said the grand
opening likely will include
a range of discounts and
promotions.
In the meantime, cus¬
tomers can lake advantage
of good deals on products
ranging from appliances

I personally don’t use

Brown said the new store
has been drawing plenty of
traffic since its opening.
"We re averaging around
150 customers a day,” he
said. “We’ve gotten excel¬
lent feedback from them.
They love what we’ve put
into the environment.”
Brown said store

years, but recently his
doctor told him he need¬
ed to up his dosage.
There are so many
health benefits to this
important vitamin, many
doctors (even those who
are anti-vitamin) have
been recommending it to
their patients.

The program currently has
about 35 men in Forsyth,
as well as another 35 at its
west Georgia location in
Waco.
“We rotate about H)
guys at a time [at the
store],” he said. “There’s
also some that work at the
distribution center in south
Forsyth. They clean every¬
thing and get everything
floor-ready down there"
Howard said the best
part of the thrift store is
that all proceeds go back
into the ministry.
“One hundred percent
goes back into helping
save men’s lives,” he said.
“And it’s not just about
those men. It’s about those
women with tears stream¬
ing down their faces. It’s
about the families.
“We’re all about intro¬
ducing those men to Chr ist
and freeing them from the
burdens of addiction.”

Patriot: Its just so good to see
“The VFW will pick up the items
and the ladies auxiliary w ill package
them and mail them to troops over
seas.” she said. “The wish list is about
30 items, like playing cards, Q-Tips,
hot chocolate, beef jerky, MoonPies,
baby wipes and toilet paper.
"There’s an ongoing need for these
troops to have some of their comforts
from home.”
Once the Vl-W was on board,
Youngblood approached his school,
Johns Creek Elementary, and others,
including Riverwatch Middle School
and North Forsyth, Forsyth Central
and South Forsyth high schools.
He asked various charitable clubs
within the schools to encourage stu¬
dents to donate items.
So far. those schools have set up
donation drop boxes* Rebecca
Youngblood said, and her son is con¬
tinuing to seek out other schools for
support.
The Youngbloods approached Judi
Jenkins, business and community rela¬
tions facilitator for the, school system,
for help.
Jenkins said she first saw
Remington perform at his school as
its fifth-grade essay contest winner.
The topic was why he was proud of
his country.
“We just thought he was absolutely
fantastic,” Jenkins said. “It's just so
good to see kids like that, so young
especially, be able to perform like that.

"I said if they sent me a flyer. I’d
send the information to all of my

each of the schools. I did it and I’m
hoping it will bloom from there.”
Not only has the effort grown, but so
has Youngblood's profile in the com
nuinity.
Since winning his school’s essay
contest, he has given his speech to the
local school hoard and Gov. Nathan
Deal. He is slated to meet soon with
District 7 U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall, who
represents part of south Forsyth.
The student said he may consider a
career involving public speaking. In
the meantime, he’s happy to be volun¬
teering through Change 4 Georgia.
"I think it's important for me to give
back because all they do for us,” he
said. "I think it’s an honor and I really
enjoy helping our troops because I’m a
patriot and I love our country.”
