Jack Harold Blair
Jack Harold Blair, 79,
of Gainesville passed
away Friday. Jan. 27,
2012, at Embracing
Hospice in Cumming,
after a brave fight with
cancer. Born in
Fayetteville, he was the
son of Jesse Eugene Blair
and Ethel Morrow Blair.
He was a graduate of the
University of South
Carolina. He lived most
of his adult life in the
Alpharetta area and was
retired at the time of his
death.
Mr. Blair was an avid
sports fan and closely fol¬
lowed racing, college
football and many other
sports. He also enjoyed
travel and had visited all
50 states over the years.
He is survived by his
wife of 54 years, Myrna
Hockersmith Blair of
Gainesville; daughter and
son-in-law, Linda Blair
Stooksbury and Tom
Stooksbury and grand¬
daughter Anna J.
Stooksbury of Roswell;
daughter and son-in-law,
Denise Blair Buffington
and Mike Buffington and
grandsons Blair M.
Buffington and Clark T.
Buffington of Jefferson.
A private memorial ser¬
vice will be held by the
family.

passed away Saturday,
Jan 28, 2012, t n
Dawsonville while engag¬
ing in his favorite activity,
golf. Born in Atlanta, he
was the son of the late
Lawrence Albert (Al)
Karst Sr. and Anne
Landers Karst.
Larry attended St.
Tomas Moore then
Riverside Military
Academy. After gradua¬
tion he briefly went to
West Georgia College
then to Parris Island to
complete his education.
He was proud to have
been a Marine.
Larry is survived by his
wife of 18 years, Jo
Marie Karst of Ball
Ground; siblings, Lucy
Rowland of Hartwell,
Arthur Wesley (Wes)
Karst of Gulf Shores,
Ala., Michael (Mike) T.
Karst of St. Pete Beach,
Fla.; nephews, S. Lee
Ragsdale of Raleigh,
N.C., Adam Ragsdale of

A memorial service
will be held Thursday,
Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at

Winifred Irene Porter,
94, of Cumming passed
away Jan. 28. 2012, at
Embracing Hospice in
Cumming. Ms. Porter was
a native of Easley, S.C.
She was a member of First
Baptist Church of
Gainesville. A devoted
wife and mother, she was
also in sales for the Rich’s
Department Store for 9
years. She was preceded
in death by her husband,
Fletcher Dorsey Porter.
She is survived by her
son and his wife, Robert
and Peggy Porter of
Cumming; grandson and
his wife, Jason and
Allison Porter of
Dawsonville; grandson,
Brad Porter of Cumming;
great-grandsons, Jake and
Jax Porter; niece and her
daughter, Linda and
M arissa Donker of
Cumming.
A graveside service was
held Monday, Jan. 30, at
Sawnee View Gardens
with the Rev. Bruce Fields
officiating.

Addie Lee Pruitt, 86, of
Cumming passed away
Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at
her residence with her
family by her side. She
was a loving wife, mother,
grandmother, sister and
aunt, who will be missed
dearly. She was preceded
in death by her husband,
Talmadge Pruitt; son,
James Pruitt; son-in-law,
Benny Dinsmore; parents,
Charlie and Sarah Cagle;
brothers, Walter and R.C.
Cagle; sisters, O/.elle
Armstrong and Mary
Davis.
She is survived by her

Local teenage artist Cecelia Lee, center, recently helped new members of
the Sawnee Woman's Club paint suitcases to be used by children who are
taken into foster care. Cool Bees Artwork and gifts played host to the club
by providing the art studio. Karen Beyer and Carolyn Watters coordinated
the project.

eign service. After serving
his country in World War
II as a radio operator in
the Army Air Corps, he
received his master’s
degree in hospital admin¬
istration from Washington
University in St. Louis.

It was there he met and
married his wife, Betty.
The young couple left for
a new home in Lima,
Peru, where W'arren, an
administrator at the
Barnes Hospital complex,
was sent to oversee the
establishment of a new
hospital being built there.
Warren later moved to
Baton Rouge, La., where
he served as an adminis¬
trator at the Baton Rouge
General Hospital for many
years. Warren also served
as president of the
Louisiana Hospital
Association.
While in Baton Rouge,
Warren was a member of
B road m oor Baptist
Church. He was also
involved in the Boy
Scouts of America for
more than 20 years and
received the Silver Beaver
and Good Shepherd
awards as well as several
others for his years of
dedication and service to
the Boy Scouts. Warren
also served as president of
the Kiwanis Club in Baton
Rouge and continued to
be an active member of
Kiwanis for more than 50
years. Warren was recent¬
ly an active member of
First Redeemer Church in
Cumming.
Warren is survived by
his beloved wife of 56
years, Elizabeth J.
Simonds of Cumming;
three cherished children.
William P. Simonds,
Carolyn S. Cagle (Kenny),
and Jonathan R. Simonds
(Kathy); 10 much-loved
grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren; his
brother, Dr. Robert
Simonds (Betty) of
Mercer Island, Wash.; and
his niece, Monika
Simonds.
The Simonds family
would like to give special
thanks to Kelly
Christensen, Tina Ritchey,
Doorye Kim, BrightStar
and Compassionate
Hospice for their wonder¬
ful loving care.
Warren’s body was
donated to Emory
University School of
Medicine for study and
research.
A memorial service will
be held Saturday, Feb. 11,
at 3 p.m. at First Redeemer
Church in Cumming.
Memorial donations
may be made to the Boy
Scouts of America, the
Red Cross or Salvation
Army.
