Student organizes fundraiser
After its recent success, Ryan
Wa/nik hopes h is 5k race will
become an annual event.
"It went great." said Wa/nik, a
Lambert High School senior. “We
had about 70 runners out on (April
I4| and we raised over $1,500."
Wa/nik said he organized the
Lambert Health Occupations
Students of America 5 k race to bene¬
fit three of the high school’s families
who have loved ones battling cancer.
"One of my friends, her mom has
cancer .. and so we decided to do it
for cancer victims," he said. "We’re
splitting it to the three different fami¬
lies.

The route took runners around
Sharon Elementary and Lambert
High schools, said Wa/nik, who
plans to study biomedical science ai
the University of Georgia.
He added that many of those
involved in the race know the fami¬
lies who are battling cancer, w hich
likely helped generate such strong
support.
"We had a lot of folks who came to
help and it couldn't have been done
without them either," he said.
