Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park
This nearly 3.000-acre site preserves a Civil War battleground that was
part of the Atlanta Campaign. The battle was fought at the site in Cobb
Counts', to the northwest of Forsyth County, from June 19, 1864 to July 2,
1864. Gen. William T. Sherman’s army consisted of 100,000 men, the
Confederate’s Gen. Joseph E. Johnston’s army had 63,000 men. More than
67,000 soldiers were killed, wounded or captured during the campaign.
Today, some 17.3 miles of interpretive walking trails take visitors through
this massive battlefield.
The Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield is located at 900

Ellijay
Located in the heart of the North Georgia Foothills in Gilmer County, the
small town of Ellijay is not a long drive from Forsyth County. The town is
known primarily for apples, and is even referred to as the Apple Capital of
Georgia in honor of its many apple orchards, farmhouses and an annual
Apple Festival. It provides the nation with more than 600,000 bushels of
apples each year. The town is also rich in natural beauty such as forests,
wildflowers, and rivers and streams. There are also a number of venues pro-1
