According to the sheriff’s

been involved in similar

whose air machines were also

Authorities have made two
arrests as they continue to
investigate recent thefts from
air pump machines at local
gas stations.
On Thursday, Cedric Bell,
49, and Cassandra Goodjohn,
36, both of Atlanta, were
charged with criminal dam
age and theft, according to
the Forsyth County Sheriff’s
Office.
Both are being held at the
Forsyth County Detention
Center, where Goodjohn’s
bond has been set at $6,765.
Bell has been denied bond
due to his probation for a fel
ony conviction, officials said.
The suspects were arrested
about 10:40 p.m. Thursday
following a theft call from the
Shell gas station at 1739
Buford Highway.
The owner told sheriff’s
deputies he found a man
standing next to a minivan
“drilling into the air pump
machine with a power tool.”
The man claimed to be clean
ing his van, but the owner
noticed damage to the
machine and called authori
ties.
Board denies tax
refund request
By Alyssa Laßenzie

e '
The Forsyth County Board
of Tax Assessors on Thursday
discussed requests from tax
payers for refunds, ending
conservation use and combin
ing properties with a covenant.
During its meeting, ti%
board denied a request to
refund property taxes
beyond the three years
allowed by state law for a
lakefront homeowner who
had a dock permit on a non
neighboring parcel.
The northeast Forsyth
home had been appraised
with the value of the dock,
which wasn’t on that tax par
cel, explained Tax Assessor
Mary Kirkpatrick. 8
Assessors dropped the
$240,000 value set in 2004
to $75,000, but the state law
allows refunds only up to
three years.
Based on the statute and
the unique circumstance
with the dock on a separate
site, the board denied the
request for refunds prior to
2009 in a 4-0 vote, with
member Ken Leach absent.
To subscribe in Forsyth County:
ONE YEAR | $79.00
To subscribe elsewhere in Georgia and in other states:
ONE YEAR | $96.30
Any unused portion of a subscription balance will be gladly refunded.
However, all refunds due the subscriber are subject to a processing fee,
which will be automatically deducted from the subscription balance.

Also during its meeting
Thursday, the board: »
» Approved a torrection
that drops the value of a
21-acre property on the
Chattahoochee River from
nearly $1.6 million to about
$390,000.
The lowered value was
based on the agricultural use
and the inability to develop
the site, as well as a flowage
easement with the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers.
* Allowed the termination
of a conservation use cove
nant for a 27.5-acre parcel
on Matt Highway near John
Burruss Road.
The early termination of
the 10-year covenant without
penalties is allowed by law
because the property had
been in at least three years of
a renewal covenant and at
least one owner was older
than 65.
« Tabled a request to com
bine a property receiving a
residential transitional cove
nant with a neighboring par
cel in Cumming. The board
would not approve the
request without a field check
of the site.
