The Producers’ at Fox Theatre
If it involves a scheme
and Mel Brooks, I'm all
in. So were the Tony
Awards and the millions
of people who saw “The
Producers” on
Broadway.
Let's face it.
Everything Brooks
touches becomes come
dy gold. And in the case
-of “The Producers,” 12
Tony Awards don’t lie.
Based off his 1968
hit movie, the musical
is about a has-been pro
ducer, Max Bialystock,
and his mild-mannered,
yet ambitious accoun
tant, Leo Bloom. The
two conjure up a
scheme to produce a
new show with the goal
to strike it rich by mak
ing the biggest flop on
Broadway.
While Bialystock
hustles little old ladies
to help fund the pro
duction, Bloom works
his numbers magic pre
paring for the huge
flop. Spoiler alert:
Despite starring a crazy
person and featuring
the song “Springtime
for Hitler,” the show
becomes a smash suc
cess.
It’s a ridiculous con
cept and a ridiculous
‘musical and it’s abso
lutely hysterical. The
show will run from
Friday through Jan. 31
at the Fox Theatre.
When “The
Producers” ends, the
Fox will make way for
another absurdly funny

Louis C.K. ho.
He's known as the
most respected comedi
an in the industry.
Before you ask, the C.K.
is short for his ptesum
ably oft-mispronounced
last name, Szekely.
In addition to being
among the hardest
working comedians,
he’s also writer, pro
ducer, creator, star and
director of the Emmy
winning FX comedy
series, “Louie,” loosely
based on his own life.
The show is brilliant,
and so is his stand-up,
although it can be raun
chy at times. His fame is
also supported by his
down-to-earth nature
and being a generally
good guy. It’s evident in
his comedy and his tick
et prices.
Every show, every city
and every club is the
same price. It’s always a
flat $45 and there are
never fees, tax, sur
charges or annoying
memberships.
Of course to do this,
you can only buy a tick

Web site. For an extra
click, it’s totally worth it

Another comedian
coming to town is Josh
Blue, who will perform
five shows Feb. 1 and 2 at
the Punchline Comedy

The “Last Comic

cerebral palsy. While it
is noticeable on stage,
Blue has managed to
turn the disability into
the source of some seri
ously good comedy.
He’s got a great set of
material plus, especially
with what I'm sure he’s
been through with heck
lers, he excels at improv
and sharp responses.
Yes, much as fat
comedians gripe about
eccentric artists from the past
whom we referred to as “tor

know are anything but grate
ful. They all feel compelled to
practice their craft.

back to the “helping others”

to be the secret to great
comedy — joke about
what you know.
He’s already had his

he’s not touring the

Wednesday. That’s
where thousands of
young girls will be, to
be wooed by tween
heartthrob Justin Bieber
on his Believe tour,
named after his recent
album, “Believe.”
I believe it’s a show
I'll be missing.
As a scrawny kid from
Canada, the then-15-
year-old Bieber was
swept up by Atlanta’s
Usher as his protégé and
signed to Island/Def
Jam record label.
He went platinum,
topped many charts and
instantly became every
young girl’s idol. It all
to pull the car over if we
passed a particularly good con
struction site so he could
watch the giant machines at
work.
His favorite books were all
about building roads and build
ings. I learned quite a bit about
this topic from children’s
books.
Finally, I think motherhood
should be on this list. It is cer
tainly a 24/7 job, and even
though there are numerous
challenges and obstacles, there
is nothing more rewarding.

happened so fast, but not
too fast to not capitalize
on.
In 2011, “Justin
Bieber: Never Say
Never” was released in
theaters. The 3-D docu
mentary of his rise to
fame grossed millions.
Bieber’s still not old
enough to buy a beer,
but the pop star’s suc

as his fan base buys his
albums, merchandise
and tour tickets.
No doubt this will
translate to a packed
house Wednesday.
Enjoy.
