DAWSONVILLE — A 58-year-old
employee was shot in the upper leg
Wednesday morning when a firearm
discharged at Dawsonville Gun and
Pawn on Hwy. 53, near Ga. 400.
The woman was taken by ambu
lance to Northeast Georgia Medical
Center in Gainesville, according to
emergency personnel.

Little Hall Park closing for paving
From staff reports
Little Hall Park on Lake Lanier at
the Forsyth-Hall County line is closing
Monday and Tuesday for paving work.
The park, which is off Dawsonville
Highway in northwestern Hall, is
operated by the U.S. Army Corps of
HOROSCOPES by Holiday
ARIES (March 21-April 19). You
nearly have a clear vision of
where you want to go. Soon
you'll be asked to impart that that
vision to others. Work on your
presentation, and you'll become
even more convicted.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20). The
environment you create around
you gives others a hint. If you've
put a great deal of care and delib
eration into it, they will feel that
they follow suit by bringing their
best efforts to your table.
GEMINI (May 21-June 21). The
people you work with may con
tribute minimally to your bottom
line now. And if you have a part
ner, don’t expect much help from
that person today. But don’t get
mad either — tomorrow every
thing changes.
CANCER (June 22-July 22).
With the moon in your sign you
are soulful, wise and probably
completely unaware of your influ
ence on others. Because of this,
people want to get close to you.
Expect company.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You
probably feel yourself starting to
let go of something you use to
cling to, white-knuckle style.
You're going to be a slightly dif
ferent person once you drop this,
and you're really ready for the
change.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). The
enjoyment of home and family
may seem at odds with the pur
suit of pleasure and entertain
ment. Instead of trying to inte
grate the two, decide which one is
more important to you tonight
and do that.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You're
mentally sparking on all cylin
ders. You'll come up with solu
tions that people aren’t yet ready
to hear. Write them down so you
don’t forget. Save them until you
sense the timing is right.

Dawson County Sheriff’s Capt. Ray

Silence isn't golden — it's plati- '

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec.

certain want (or perhaps it's even
boiled to the point of desire by
now) that you are not seeing all
the work you’ll have to do to have
this. Good — that would only
deter you. You can do this.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19).
It's as though someone is pushing
you from behind, shoving you
into the exciting flow of life. You'll
take action because the current

perhaps even bearable to you.

You are in your element with the
sun and planets cheering you on.
All you want to do with this cos

pure intentions will help the

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). It's
still too early to judge how suc

thing is sure —the lost days are
behind you. You've set your sights
on a goal that is attainable and
you've a clear map to get there
too.
TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Jan. 25).
You have a destination in mind,

roundabout way of getting
there, but rest assured, you will
arrive. A mentor helps. Attain
one in the next five weeks. You'll
be accepted in a small group or

March. Your education pays off
in June with money. Cancer and
Aries adore you. Your lucky

“We feel like most of our numbers are
going to come from those folks who
provide services to those in need —the
food pantries, The Place [of Forsyth
County], those kinds of organizations —
as well as the school system,” she said.
For those who may not be receiving
any assistance, the count will also use
help from the volunteers who will func
tion similarly to U.S. Census workers,
going into areas where homeless may be
found to help them fill out a survey.
“We are going to have some volun
teers who'll go in places like [extended
stay motels] and [some business areas)
to try and obtain surveys from those that
are homeless as well,” Corliss said.
“We are having some difficulty get
ting into places like 24-hour restaurants
and that kind of thing. 1 think the per
ception is we don’t have an issue, [that]
there aren’t homeless folks who are
here.
“But we think sometimes those folks
come into those types of areas to get out
of the elements.”
Corliss said count workers are using
three definitions of “homeless.”
The first, sheltered homeless, involves
those staying in emergency shelters or
transitional housing, such as with
friends or relatives. Unsheltered home
less are those residing “in places not
meant for human inhabitation.”
“That would be like cars, abandoned
buildings, encampments,” Corliss said.
“That’s where our volunteers are going
to come into play.”
The final category is the imminently
homeless, which includes people who
are facing dispossession or foreclosure
in the near future.
“They don’t know what they’re going
to be doing within the next two weeks,”
Corliss said. *“They don’t have means or

“Those are the three categories and
we know there are certainly folks in
Forsyth County that fall into those.”
Corliss said anyone who is homeless
or knows of someone without a home,
should call the homeless count hotline at
(770) 887-1121.
“We can take information from them
and also assist them with some referrals
from that number,” she said.
Corliss hopes the count is successful.
“This is our first year so there has

feel like this is going to be important
information as we move forward and it
will help us understand the scope of the
problem here,” she said.
