Extension welcomes agent
It’s been 19 years since
I first walked into a
Cooperative Extension
office. I started as an agri
cultural educator in my
home county.
I've been a lot of places
since then, but I found
my way home again. This
time, home is Forsyth
County and I’'m serving
here as an agriculture and
natural resource agent.
I'll bet a lot of you
have never taken advan
tage of our services here
at UGA Cooperative
Extension. We have three
main areas — Family and
Consumer Sciences, 4H
and Agriculture and
Natural Resources. Since
that’s my area, let’s
explore that one.
Your Extension Office
has two agriculture
agents. They are Heather
Kolich, who has been
helping here for several
years, and me, Louise
Estabrook. Together, we
do our best to bring you
quality programming.
So, what’s in this for
you?
* Soil and water testing
services: For a nominal
fee, our office advises.cli
ents on which tests they
may need and how to take
them. Then we send those
samples off to the labs at
UGA in Athens. When
the reports are ready, we
email them to you. But
that’s not all. We have
your reports available on
our computers so you can
call here anytime and we
can answer any questions
you have about the rec
ommendations listed on
your reports.
» Research generated
answers to all of your
agricultural questions. Do
you have a concern about
something you saw in
your yard over the week
end or a question about
vegetable variety sugges
tions for Georgia? Call
anytime between 8 a.m.
and 5 p.m. , Monday
through Friday. [ won’t
guarantee that we’ll know
the answer immediately,
but I will guarantee that
we’ll find it out and get
back to you.
« Plant, disease, or
insect identification: You
can bring samples into
our office and we will

ways to effectively deal
with the issue.
In some cases, you may
want to know what the
insects are and how to
make them go away, or
you may want to identify
a shrub and learn how to
propagate it. We can be
counted on to always sup

response.

No problem. Use my
