An October Friday night proves memorable
It’s time to get away from all
these depressing headlines.
We're all doomed, we get the
message.
As you read this, I hope
we’ve all prayed someone
invents a king-sized Ebola fly
swatter. I'm all for it.
And is anyone else scratching
their noggins, wondering how
we had enough horseshoes in
our pockets that we got the
College Football Hall of Fame
and the Center for Disease
Control right here in Georgia?
Pretty certain the CDC is
chock-full of scary things that
can make who wins “Dancing
With the Stars” a moot point.
No field trip within 10-square
blocks of the place for me.
Much too frightening and dis
mal.
If it’s an abomination to be
ordered, then go rise up and
watch the Falcons stink it up
inside before they become even
more putrid outdoors.

When a man finds his destiny, it's wonderful
Sometimes a man, despite his
best efforts, doesn’t find his
destiny. Try as he might, down
through the earnest years of his
life, he chases it and can even
believe he has it, only to awak
en one morning and discover
he doesn’t. That what he has is
an illusion, a mirage that he
tried to turn into reality.
Then, unexplainably, destiny
finds him. It wasn’t anywhere
he looked or even cared to
peek, yet it threw itself into his
path, tackled him, and when he
stopped wrestling against the
mighty force, he saw he was
staring right smack into the eye
of what God had destined for
him all along. Then he gave up
the fight against it, embraced it,
and found true contentment and
happiness. He had arrived.
For that is what destiny truly
is —the soul’s satisfaction of
knowing that you are where
you are meant to be. That from
the moment that life was

sion, I was lucky enough to
head for South Forsyth High’s
homecoming game Oct. 10. It
was my second prep game in
35 years or so.
There was an instant remind

It’s hard to fathom any type

No one knows how far this
South team will go for the bal
ance of the season. But do
yourself a favor and go marvel
at the leg of Alex Barbir.
When the War Eagles lined
up for a 56-yard field goal, the
first thought was it’s going to
be a fake.
When Barbir boomed the ball
through the uprights with at
least 10 yards to spare, those in
the stands had witnessed the
real thing. Three more field
goals put the junior into the
Georgia record books.
Joy and happiness were the
order of the evening at half
time, too.
Son Chris and his longtime
friend Katie Wortham, both
seniors, were in the homecom

they looked perfect as they
paraded onto the field.
Before the game, our families
had a combination tailgate
party/paparazzi fest. Thank
chest tightly, declaring, “I am
so blessed. I have found
where I was meant to be.”
It came as a surprise.
Utterly and totally. At times,
I still shake my head in won
derment and marvel at the
amazement of God’s plan and
how the oddest pieces of a
puzzle will fit together with
out being forced. How in a
million years you would
never think those pieces
would match yet they melt
together and you cannot deci
pher where one ends and the
other begins. Sometimes, as |

The grandparents meted hugs

He fell under the misconcep

He opined then that we talk
