Library Friends and Advocates
donated $12,000 to fund
library adult and children’s
programs for the rest of the
year, just in time for National
Friends of the Library Week,
which runs today through
Saturday.

“Libraries need friends. It’s
just that simple.”
“In fact, across American
many public libraries were
established through the efforts
of community members who
understood the value of librar
ies to their communities and
also understood that libraries
needed community support to
survive,” it reads.
Last year, Forsyth County’s
four public libraries provided
1,286 programs to more than
69,000 participants of all ages,
according to Kitu Dave in the
release.
The Friends’ donation came
from sales at the Friends’
bookstores, special book sale
arships to district graduates —
received 1,103 votes, or 51 per
cent of the total.
Creekside and Union Hill
each received 20 percent of the
votes.
The popular vote results were
reported to the committee,

volunteers donate their time in
the bookstores and help process
donations. Membership in the
FCPL Friends and Advocates
program costs $lO a year.
The goal of Friends and
Advocates is to support each
library branch “in an effort to
promote literacy in our commu
nity and to encourage residents
to visit the library and make full
use of its resources.” :
