DULUTH - In a game
that can only be
described as a purely
defensive struggle,
Lambert travelled to
Northview and shut out
the Titans on their way to
a 3-0 win on Friday,
stretching the Longhorns’
win streak to three games
in a row.
. Lambert (4-3, 4-2
Region 6-AAAAAA)
kicker Tanner Hall
notched an early 40 yard
field goal in the first
quarter, unknowingly
supplying the Longhorns
with the only points they
would need in the con
test. Northview (5-2, 4-2)
looked lost offensively
through for the majority
of the game as penalties
and miscues burdened the
Titans’ offense and
extended their offensive
scoring drought to eight
consecutive quarters.
“We've been telling the
guys on defense that they
have to believe in them
selves and the scheme,”
Lambert coach Louis
Daniel said. “We’ve been
preaching and teaching to
our guys and everything
lined up for us tonight.
Offensively, we missed
some scoring opportuni
ties and didn’t execute,
but I'm proud of our guys
for grinding out there
tonight.”
The Longhorns’
defense continued their
impressive work of late,
holding the Northview
offense to only 39 yards
rushing, forcing the
Titans to continually try
to move the ball through
the air. Northview quar
terback D.J. Pearson (14-
for-29, 207 yards, 2 INT)
had a scattershot perfor
mance, partly due to the
consistent pass rush pres
suring him to leave the
pocket and throw from
running back Lance
McGonigle.
“The key was to hold
onto the ball,” Torres
said. “We've had a lot of
turnovers lately on
offense and the key was
really just to hold onto it
and drive the clock
down.”
Leading 14-6 at the
half, North relied on its
defense to carry it the rest
of the way as the offense
didn't gain a single first
down in the second half.
Four possessions, four
three-and-outs, but the
defense rose to the chal
lenge.
“They had to make
plays and they did,” Galt
said. “That’s a sign of a
team that's starting to fig
ure it out. I wish we’d not
waited this long to figure
it out, but I think tonight
we wanted it a little more
than they did.”
The Gladiators pulled
within two points of
North 46 seconds into the
fourth quarter, but elected
to kick the extra point
instead of going for two

tion penalty after the

Torres led the two
headed monster for North
on the ground along with
senior full back Jamal
Davenport (10 carries, 65
yards). The duo account
ed for 166 of North's 210
yards on offense.
Johns Creek answered
North’s touchdown with a
touchdown of its own, but
had the extra-point
blocked.
“If we don’t block that
extra-point the game
could go into overtime,”
Galt said. “That is some
thing we work on every
Wednesday.”
With 9:06 left in the
second quarter, North
went on an impressive
15-play, 66-yard touch
down drive that left only
42 seconds for Johns
Creek to work with
before the end of the half.
The Raiders converted a
fourth-and-2 and a fourth
and-1 on the drive that
resulted in a 12-yard
touchdown run by junior

Northview was penal

yards during the game,
but none was bigger than
a block-in-the-back call
with 3:29 left in the third
quarter that negated a
huge punt return for the
Titans and backed them
up inside their own terri

the Titans were forced to

With two minutes
remaining in the fourth

one last as they drove
into Lambert territory.
But the Longhorn
defense held strong once
again as defensive back
Justyn Jean-Felix inter

the front of the end zone,
putting an end to the
defensive duel.
“As soon as I saw
(Pearson) moving, I just
stuck with my receiver,”
Jean-Felix said. “When
the ball came to me, I just
knew that I had to come
down with the catch and
save the game for my
