The driver of the vehicle that turned
was taken to Northside Hospital-
Forsyth in Cumming, authorities said.
Emergency personnel took an adult and
two children from the second vehicle to
Northeast Georgia Medical Center in
Gainesville.
Officials on the scene described all of
the injuries as non-life threatening. The
names and ages of those involved have
not been released.
According to Forsyth County Fire
Division Chief Jason Shivers, the colli
sion was reported about 7:17 a.m.
“The wreck was very near [Fire]
Station 7, so it didn’t take [emergency
personnel] long at all [to get there],”
Shivers said.
Firefighters had to force the doors
open on one of the vehicles to free the
people inside.
Shivers noted that Forsyth has outfit
ted every fire engine with extrication
tools, something not all departments
have done.
“We can start working on freeing the
patients as soon as we arrive, rather
than waiting on equipment to arrive,”
he said.
Although the crash occurred directly
in front of the school, emergency crews
were able to keep one lane of
Dahlonega Highway open for the
morning commute.

Trunk or treat event Saturday
By Kelly Whitmire

Children and their parents
can get a lesson in safety and
some candy too Saturday as
Forsyth County holds its
fifth annual Trunk or Treat
safety event at Coal
Mountain Park.
Set for 6 to 9 p.m., the fes
tivities include a bean bag
toss, haunted maze, face
painting and trick or treating.
Admission is one bag of
candy per family, and the
local chapter of the American
Red Cross, Safe Kids Forsyth
and various local businesses
are sponsoring the vehicle
“trunks” where kids can stop
for candy.
In a statement, Forsyth
County Fire Chief Danny
Bowman described Trunk or
Treat as a “great opportunity
to share with families impor
tant safety information” sur
rounding activities for
Halloween, which this year
falls on a Friday.
“[The local] public safety
personnel pride themselves
on providing engaging ways
to promote safety to our com
munity’s youth,” he said.
The targets, according to the
GBI, were the “most prolific
offenders of child pornography
laws.
As of Thursday, the GBI
reported that 595 digital devices
had been seized.
The 18 suspects arrested
Monday ranged in age from 18

The board also discussed
potentially opening two other
early voting locations for next
week.
The proposed sites would be
either First Redeemer or Lanier
United Methodist churches in
south Forsyth, and either
Browns Bridge Community or
Concord Baptist churches on
the county’s north end.

Fire Division Chief Jason
Shivers added that the
“whole point of the event is
to provide a fall/Halloween
like event that is public safety
related for the community.”
““You sponsor a trunk with
some kind of message or
event ... and the children can
come by and, of course, get
treats and candies,” he said.
The event also aims to
teach parents and children
safe practices for trick-or
treating in the coming week,
including eating only “store

board chairman. “... So then
we start searching for one in

The board also reviewed

“Never trick or treat alone,
you always want to be in a

bright-colored, reflective
clothing, travel in groups.
[And] always have the par

make sure before the chil

The event also stresses
avoiding strangers while trick

Shivers said. “The stranger

The task force made 198

The building is the sole early

when voting expands to at least
