OBITUARIES
Daniel Everett Bettis
Daniel Everett Bettis,
was born March 7, 1922
and passed at the age of
93 June 24, 2015.
He was an incredible
father, “Popa”, husband,
brother, son apd friend to
many in his community
known as “Midway” in
the Alpharetta/Cumming,
area. Hereinafter he will
be referred to as “Popa”.
Popa made his mark on
the community in many
ways that will never be
forgotten. He grew up to
follow his father, the late
Carter Grady Bettis, in
rurning the community’s
first general store that had
shopping carts. This was
a big deal back then.
Everett Bettis’ General
Store later became Wood
Ace Hardware X’s 3
under the ownership of
his then son-in-law Jerry
Wood. Popa retired Jan.
1, 1980 to pursue his next
passion in life, antique
and classic car collecting.
He was known as one of
the most well respected
men in the industry and
sold cars all over the
world on his word alone.
- Popa married the love
of his life, the late
Marjorie Louise Bettis,
when he was 19 and they
had 66 wonderful years
together. A true love
story. Popa was an active
member of Longstreet
“Baptist Church where he
served as a deacon and
Sunday school teacher. In
1961, he and two other
members of the commu-,
nity donated the 10 acres
of land where Midway
Elementary School is
now. He cared about his
community and was very
active and served as
chairman of his local
bank, Chairman of the
Forsyth County Board of
Education and County
Hospital Authority among
many others. Popa wore
many hats in the commu
nity and in the lives that
he touched throughout his
93 years but his legacy
will always be his love
and dedication to his fam
ily, his friends and his
community.
It is with great sadness
and emptiness that we
have to say goodbye to
this man that has always
been the *“Co-Rock” (with
Granny by his side!) of
our family. However, it is
with great joy and excite
ment at the thought of his
being with his love again.
I have to ask.....”Popa, is
Heaven everything you
thought it would be?”
Popa is survived by his
daughter, Joy Bettis of

Poem of Life
Life is but a stopping
place,
A pause in what’s to be,
A resting place along
the road,
to sweet eternity. ,
We all have different

Different paths along

We all were meant to
learn some things,
but never meant to
stay...
Our destination is a

Far greater than we
know. _ §
