Shooting
suspect caught
°
in Maryland
By Kayla Robins
krobins@forsythnews.com
A man wanted on charges of shooting
two people at a residence in Cumming last
month before fleeing the area has been
cagght ir}_ Maryl‘anq: authorities said.
The Forsyth County
Sheriff’s Office was noti
fied Monday afternoon
that Ronald Eric Lofland,
47, was detained by U.S.
Marshals deputies, accord
ing to Deputy Epifanio
Rodriguez, a spokesman
for the local agency.
The circumstances of
his capture were not
immediately available, including details
about why Lofland was in Maryland and
how he got there.
U.S. Marshals deputies were on scene
Monday, which remains an active investiga
tion.
Lofland is suspected of shooting an adult
male and female just after midnight on May
30 at a home on Darla Avenue, which con
nects 14th and 15th streets off Tribble Gap
Road. Both victims survived their injuries.
He fled the scene shortly after.
His vehicle was found abandoned on the
side of the road the next morning at the
Buford Highway (Hwy. 20) interchange on
Interstate-285 in Gwinnett County.
The incident was thought to be domestic
related and that the female victim was either
“married or has been married to the sus
pect.”
Lofland was indicted on June 13 for sepa
rate domestic charges involving the same
woman, Rodriguez said.
For that January incident, he faces two
charges of family violence-aggravated
assault and third-degree cruelty to children,
according to a Forsyth County indictment
report.
Rodriguez said the next step is to extra
dite Lofland back to Forsyth County.
incident was an attempted abduction was unfounded.
Rodriguez said.
“None of these women felt as if he was trying to
abduct them,” he said.
Information given from the Publix incident led
investigators to a Feb. 25 case where a man was want
ed for trying to grope a woman in a tanning parlor in
south Forsyth.
The suspect reportedly entered the store about 5 p.m.
that day and asked the woman at the front desk about
information regarding a subscription for his wife,
Rodriguez said.
