Costa Vida
shuts doors in
By Kelly Whitmire
kwhitmire@forsythnews.com
Customers may have been shocked two weeks
ago to find that Costa Vida, a Mexican restaurant
located on Peachtree Parkway (Hwy. 141), had
closed unexpectedly after less than two years in
operation, but they were not alone in their shock.
It was even unexpected for those involved.
“[Franchise officials] agreed to take over opera
tions May 1 and were going to open up a couple
new stores in the Atlanta market and sell them as
a package deal,” said Michael Williams, state sen
ator for District 27. “Then about 11p.m. on [June
11] I got a call saying that they were going to shut
the store down the next day.”
Williams, who is in his first term, said though
many in the county believed him to be the owner,
he and his wife, Virginia, were only investors. His
brother oversaw day-to-day operations.
The restaurant opened across from The
Collection at Forsyth in Oct. 2014.
After his brother left, the couple operated the
business, Williams said.
“That was in the late part of January, first part
of February when I was still in session, so [my
wife] was kind of running it,” Williams said.
“After I got done, we decided that our role was
investors ... that we didn’t want to run the restau
rant either, and we reached out to the franchise.”
Williams said he and his wife had no part in the
decision, and the company had decided to focus
on other markets.
“It wasn’t my decision,” he said. “At that point
in time, they were running and operating the res
taurant and I had no say init”
said some of the most com
mon topics were CCRPI
scores, itslearning, the Bring
Your Own Technology initia
tive and online testing.
“Of course, the calendar is
always a big topic of discus
sion,” she said.
All LSCs were required to
meet a minimum of four
times.
