4-H participates in public speaking contest
By Jack Lowery
For the Forsyth County News
The Georgia 4-H
Program provides many
opportunities such as
leadership, educational
programs, citizenship and
so much more for youth.
One of these opportuni
ties is public speaking.
Every year, Forsyth
County 4-H offers a local
public speaking competi
tion called County Project
Achievement.
Project achievement is
a cornerstone in the :
Georgia 4-H Program and
serves to showcase the
4-H’ers knowledge and
interests.
What is County
It is a large annual
event for fourth through
sixth grade 4-H’ers that
allows them to compete
with a project they have
created.
Youth must select a
project area of interest,
research the topic, write a
speech, and present it in
front of judges using a
poster and prop.
The 4-H’ers are
allowed to choose any
topic as the focus of their
speeches in a project
area.

What can 4-H'ers
talk about?
Georgia 4-H offers
something for almost
everyone. From bicycle to
wildlife, there are more
than 50 different catego
ries. Some of the more
popular project areas
include sports, animals,
different hobbies, history
and science; however,
there is a project area for
everyone. Most projects
include oral presenta
tions, but several are spe
cial, including performing
arts categories, sewing,
and cooking.
This public speaking
competition is a great
opportunity for beginners
or for those who love
speaking publically.
Public speaking allows
them to increase their
self-confidence, develop
leadership skills, and
fine-tune their communi
cation skills. This is a
great experience for
youth, and there were
over thirty participants in
this competition last year.
This year County Project
Achievement will take
place from 6-8 p.m.
