A popular breakfast stop in
north Forsyth is closing its
doors. ‘
Kirk McConnell, owner of
Donut Connection, said the
store’s last day open will be
Sunday after nearly 13 years at
the location on Keith Bridge
Road. McConnell said the
opening of nearby restaurants
and an offer to lease the proper
ty drove the decision.
“This community has been
like no other. They've helped
me feed my kids and put them
through college,” McConnell
said. “This is really not a finan
cial loss. It’s more of a personal
loss because it was always my.
dream to have this business —
my own, not a franchise — and
it’s not that I’'m going to be
affected financially closing. It’s
a little disappointing that when
those places opened, 70 percent
of my customers stuck with
me; the other 30 percent didn’t
care.”

McConnell said he “took
every dollar he had” to buy the
land the business sits on —
which also is the location of his
construction business Coal
Mountain Builders — and built
and designed Donut
Connection.
Customers Linda Duke and

happy to see Donut Connection
£o.
“They’re very nice here, and
it’s a shame,” Dayo said. “It
really is, because the owner is
very nice, I hear, and the staff
loves him. And a lot of people
are going to be without jobs.”
McConnell said he has
received a lot of support from
customers since announcing the
store would close.
“IMy wife] put something

leaving. [We got] hundreds and
hundreds of comments on
Facebook and every one of
them was positive. It was very
positive for me to see that, and
they all knew me by the first
name,” he said.
