Resigns as Georgia
secretary of state ahead of
election lawsuit hearing

ATLANTA — Republican Brian
Kemp resigned Thursday as Georgia’s
secretary of state, a day after his cam
paign said he’s captured enough votes to
become Georgia governor, even though
his election rival is conceding nothing.
Attorney Russ Willard with the attor

announced the resignation in federal
court Thursday morning.
Willard said Kemp delivered a letter of
resignation to Gov. Nathan Deal on
Thursday morning, and it is effective at
1389 am, -
The state said Kemp will not perform
any election-related duties Thursday.
The announcement came ahead of a
scheduled hearing Thursday for a law
suit in which five Georgia voters asked
that Kemp be barred from exercising his
duties as the state’s chief elections offi
cer in any future management of his
own election tally. )

Republican Incumbent Todd Jones has
been re-elected as the District 25 state
House representative, topping
Democratic challenger Anita Tucker by
a wide margin.
Jones took 63.99 percent of the vote in
Forsyth County, or 17,879 votes, over
Tucker who earned 36.01 percent of the
vote, or 10,062 votes.
After local results were released,

Set to become first-ever Georgia
lieutenant governor from Forsyth County

With all of the precincts reporting, it appears for the first
time ever the next lieutenant governor of Georgia calls
Forsyth County home.
Republican Geoff Duncan defeated Democrat Sarah Riggs
Amico by 52.2 percent of the vote, or about 1.95 million
votes, to Amico’s 47.8 percent, or 1.85 million votes, to
become lieutenant governor-elect of Georgia. Locally,
Duncan earned 70.6 percent, or 65,798 votes, of Forsyth
County votes.

Woodall’s re-election bid in 7th District still at risk

U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall’s tight race with
Democrat challenger Carolyn Bourdeaux
was still considered too close to call
Wednesday after the midterm election.
With 100 percent of precincts reported,
Woodall had 50.16 percent of the vote, or
139,804 votes, while Bourdeaux had 49.84
percent, or 138,914 votes, but campaigns
said absentee ballots were still being count
ed Wednesday morning.

out Democrat Steve Smith by over
40,000 votes.
Dolezal earned 73.43 percent of
the vote in Forsyth County, or
63,576 votes, over Smith who took
26.57 percent of the vote, 23,005

“Our entire family is so excited,” Duncan said. “We’ve put
two years’ worth of effort into this and just continue to
understand that right from the get-go, we were such an
underdog, and to be able to get to this point is so exciting for
us. Now, the great part about this is now we go get to do
what we said we were going to do and we get to champion
conservative principles and it’s just an honor for us to do
that.”
In a tight race, Duncan said he was glad to see the shift
once Forsyth County’s votes dropped early Wednesday
