That the said troops lhall be fubjed to the existing articles of war, or such as may hereafter be formed by Congress or a committee of the States. Rcjdved, That the Hates above-mentioned be, and they are hereby requeued to use their utmost exertions to raise the quotas of troops, refpedivefy assigned to them, with all pos sible expedition ; and that the Executives of the said Hates be, and hcrehy are requested, in case any of their Legislatures jhoOld not be in feilion, immediately to convene them for tins purpose, as a delay may be attended with the molt fatal con sequences. The Committee withdrew, and returned with the follo- I ing Report: ' The business of this meeting being agreeable to notifica -1 (ion, First, To take into confideratioii the probable confe- I tjuence of the difeouragement given by feme among them to I the circulation of the Paper Medium ” Second, “ To de- I lennine in what light they will look upon such as refule to I give it a credit equal to specie.” On the firft article your Committee observe, That as the I Bapcr currency is emitted under the authority, and by the j Larwrof the Itate, it becomes the duty of every citizen of this 1 state to do every thing in his power for the luppoit of it, and ■ on the due and proper execution of this law depends in a great 1 meafiire the harmony and peace of society in their public 1 concerns, and in the private dealings of individuals. , To prevent that distrust and jealousy so alarming to the ■ fears of the merchant, and so fatal to the credit of our cur- I reucy, and consequently the value of the labour and produce J of our country, they recommend to the citizens of this towu 1 10 enter into a mutual obligation with each other, to receive ■ the paper- currency for all articles of produce, merchandize, I or labour, in tbe fame manner and at the fame rates.as specie. I _ And on the 2d article your Committee are of opinion, th2t ■ it is not in the power of the citizens of this town to come to ■ any resolutions which can be accompanied with such aid and ■ efficacy in their execution as conllitutionally belongs to the I Legislature, and is always ready for the execution of every ■ Law which they think proper to enaFc—They therefore re -1 commend, that in every instance, where any person in any ■ manner counterafts the law for the emission of the paper c r ■ rency, or refufes to conform to the spirit and iiucntion of it, ■ tich citizen of this town fliall covenant and agree to do all ■in his power to bring him to public pumilmient, and Hull ■ immediately lodge information before a Magistrate, that he ■ maybe held to bail, and tried according to law, for counter lading and opposing the laws of tins llate. And as the Legif- I lature will Ihortly be afiembled, they recommend that no other ■ meaferes be taken till that body have opportunity to pas, such ■other laws, as they may think pioner for the luppoit of the |P»per currency. Which Report was agreed to; Aid ordered to be publifiu td in the next Gazetie ; and that the Covenant recommenced to the ciu.ens be lodged with Dr. Henry Todd, who is re. quelled to rake Rich measures as he may'think neceiTary to obtain the fubferipuons of the citizens agreeably to the fore going Report. The King of Pruflia having at intervals fallen into a kind of lethargy for the two preceding days, expired on the 17th instant, at three o’clock in the morning, in the' 75th year of his age, having reigned 46 years, two months, and 17 days. Some hours afterwards this event was publicly announced to the garrison of Berlin by the Governor, (the gates being iliut) who at the fame time caused the oaths of allegiance to his prefeut Majesty to be tendered to the different regiments. Tne Board refnined the consideration of the order of the 13th instant, dueling the getting the completing the church to the lowed bidder, on this day, at Fox’s Tavern, when Colonel Mead, the late undertaker, attended the Board, and gave in his excuses for not going on with the fame. * Ordered, That he be permitted to proceed on the aforefaid work ; provided he Hull comply with the requisitions made by this Board the 13th inff. Ordered, I'hat Robert Bonner be allowed the sum of Ten Pounds for his trouble in attending, and crying the sales of Lots heretofore made in this town, and for his attendance to any the Lots that may be disposed of on the day before .the Races, in conformity to a determination of this Board of the 13 th instant.
