■An ACT for imposing a Tax on the Inhabitants of the State
I of Georgia, and other persons holding property, real or
personal, therein, for *he Use and Support of the Govern-
I ment thereof, from the firft Day of January to the thirty—
! firft Day of December, one thousand seven hundred and
eighty-seven.
WHEREAS it is expedient that a sum
(hodld be raised for the purpose of
■discharging the debts of this date, and for
■defraying the expences of government, Be
■/V therefore enadltd by the Representatives of
Mthe Freemen of the State of Georgia , in Gene
wral Assembly met , and by the authority of the
Wfame * 1 hat a tax of twelve (hillings and (ix-
Ipence for every One hundred pounds value of
I all lands within this Rate, granted to or sur
veyed for any person, as such lands shall be
eftimated* (hall be levied on the fame, ac
cording to the following mode, viz. All tide
swamp, (including islands) cultivated or un
cultivated, of the firft quality, (hall be rated
at four pounds seventeen (hillings per acre.
Os the second quality* three pounds.
Os the third quality, one pound seventeen
(hillings.
All pine barren lands adjoining such
swamp, or contiguous thereto, and within
three miles of water carriage, at fifteen ihil

All prime inlaiid swamp, cultivated or
uncultivated, at an average of three pounds
seven (hillings*
Os the second quality, at one pound seven
teen (hillings.
Os the third quality* at fifteen (hillings.

Salt marlh, at four (hillings.
High river swamp, or low grounds, (in
cluding idands) cultivated or uncultivated,
(including such as are commonly called fe

as high as the mouth of M'Bean’s creek, on
Savannah river, of the firft quality, two
pounds twelve (hillings*

second low grounds) lying above M'Bean s
creek, and as high as the mouth of Rae’s

lands) cultivated or uncultivated, from the
mouth of Rae’s creek to the mouth of Broad
river, within one mile of Savannah river, of

All oak and hickory land, (including
islands) cultivated or uncultivated) from the
mouth of Broad river, up the Savannah
river, within one mile of the fame, and along
the northernmost stream thereof,
