f Carpe Diem, Horace.
j. 'tTTiiY thus tardy Delia’s Hay?
W Haste my fair one haste away;
Soft impatience bids thee come,
Quickly to thy deftin’d home;
There to join thy long loft friend,
Taftc affeftion without end,
There thy happy circle greet,
By thy prefeuce made complete.
Daring thus to prove the sea !
AH of thine will welcome thee;
Gently too the north wind blow,
When the lofty topsails flow,
When the spreading canvass fweils
And thy guardian virtue tells,
Ocean proud in boift’rous wave,
There my votarefs you have.
Smooth the billow then ftiall move,
In obeyfance to his voice;
Waft thee to expeding love,
{ Waft thee to thy wifli’d for joys.
Haste my lovely Delia haste,
I.eft foine accident intrude,
Hope the heft, forget the past,
Banifli hence solicitude.
So have I seen two ftreamlets spread,
Through dark meand’iing maze,
And meet again at fountain head,
By unexpected ways.

ANECDOTE.
FREDERICK the G reat of Pruflia pofleffed
more virtues, than generally dignify Princes.
In was almost Angular in one pradice, which did
honor to his head and heart, for it contributed
vciy much to the happiness of his people. He al
ways heared with his own ears the petitions and
complaints of his fubjedts/and returned answers
without expoflng the petitioners to the caprice of
Aliniflers.
Some peasants, hearing of the King’s condescen
sion, presented themselves before their sovereign
W'ith a Complaint, that the PA infer of their pariih
had got one of their daughters with child ; and,
very juflly conceiving this to be a most heinous of
fence, they prayed that the Levite might be re
moved from their pariih.
The amorous Pricft was soon brought into the
presence, and told of the charge preferred against
him : for which he Hammered at an apology ; hut
did not attempt to deny it.
The Sovereign then told him as they had desired
it, he must remove him from that Pariih, and was
sorry for it; because it was a very good living.
4t But (added the facetious Monarch) you (hall
not starve. I will give you a frontier D arith, where
the people are not so flrait laced as your old friends;
and where I nuunt / übjetts . But if they ftiould
complain of your Pappian sports, you may tell
them, if it be a fault) you’ll be daily mending of
