SPRINGFIELD, (Mijfucbu.'etti) May 16-
In vain do those who with tor the reiteration of
j.c*ce tothefe unhappy dates, represent the alarm
in? confequencea winch mud follow the anarchy
v/h ch prevails at this time *, in vain do they set the
example of ftibmiftion to those laws which ought
to unite the citizens of the fame country, and to
that moderation which ought to guide all their pro
ceedings, and all their examinations into the pri
vileges 'of each particular class. The minis of
the people are too much agitated to listen to the
voice of reason, and they seem to get daily more
and more out of bounds: all the towns, all the
villages, are unhappily divided into two parties,
violently exasperated agaibft each other, and ready
to come to the mod deplorable extremities, infup
port of what they each think right.
Preparations, we are told, are making to fortify
thetowu of Great-Barrington, the inhabitants of
which being appreheulivc of a visit from the Mas
sachusetts insurgents.

union that has refufed to take a feat at this Honor

to her honor or disgrace.
We hear that the greated unanimity subsists in
the councils of the Federal Convention. It is to be
hoped, fays a correspondent, the united dates will
difeover as much wifdora in receiving from them
a suitable form of government to preserve the li
berty of the people, as they had fortitude in de
fending them againd the arbitrary and wicked at
tempts of Great-Britain. Nothing but union and
a vigorous continental government can save us
from dedrudiou.

THAT on Saturday, the 2i.ft
intt. a negro fellow named
WILL, was taken on the planta
tion of Daniel Wallicon, ien. near
to Augutta, by his negroes, whom
they deliveredto their and
- as he was bringing him with' an in
tention of delivering the fellow, as
he said, up to justice, he died the
fame day, and from the creditable
witnefies who came before me, it
appears this was occasioned from
sage he received from
laid Walicon. This fellow was of
the Angola country, about 5 feet
5 inches high, about eighteen or
twenty years of age, had the ball
and. part of the nail of his thumb qn
the right hand, cut away; remark
ably imall feet and hands, had a
; hored through each ear, and
had some of his country m.arkjs on
his breatt* and from his manner of
talking, seemed to be hut a little
time in. this country. He was afle
ed his matter's name, but refufed
telling it; and as this unfortunate
circumftance* has come within my
knowledge,. 1 therefore think it ne
cettary to make it public, that from
this defeription, the owner may
ground, his proof for a restitution.
