JLo ! Croesus (lrutß, in treasures rich and great:
Yes—but his son is—fquand’ring his estate.
Ctipm ’ full bags hisieyes with pleasure fill,
But Gripus dreams of thieves and robbers Hill.
Cornubio' s heart is generous, wife and good;
But how’s his wife f —No better than the fltould, _
How bled the batchelor! how free from ftrife 1
True—but he’s only pining for a wife.
Flatus with titles how supremely bleft !
Ye3—if his conscience would but let him rest.
Bibo exults in constitution stout {
True—and for this he thanks—a ten weeks gout.
Some with for children, others with they’d none,
This loft an only daughter, that a son.
Some want promotions, others have too many ;
Some hoard their thousands, and yet want a penny.
Some on a coach and four their paftions fix ;
Nothing is greater !—Yes—a coach and fix.
• Flortild s dreft as modish as you will,
And the were bleft, bu tFlavia'o finer still.
Thus keen vexations rife in various way«,
And more or less embitter all our days.
It nought avails, whate’er we call our own,
While peevilh paftions rule in reason’s throne.
Wealth, honor, pow’r, dominion, all is vain,
While felfiih, envioys, fretful humours reign.
Where then foi fuccour shall poor mortals flee?
What brings contentmentrhometto you and me i
Phi!ofophy, with all fscr boasted train
Os fine conclusions, promises in vain.
Wit, genius, judgment, fine diftinguifh’d parts,
These fill our heads,, but net, content pur hearts.
One fourceof bliss, gndoneglone we find,
Cau soothe the foul, and case the murmi’ring mind 1
Religion, bleft religion* thou alone,
That treasure art, thpt graud Catholicon !

Notice to •whom this may concern,
THAT on Saturday, the 21st
inst. a negro fellow named
WILL, was taken on the planta
tion of Daniel Wallicon, ten. near
to Augusta, by his negroes, whom
they delivered to their matter 3 and
as he was bringing him with an in
tention of delivering the fellow, as
he said, up to justice, he died the
fame day, and from the creditable
witnesses who came befpre me, it
appears this was occasioned from
the cruel usage he received from
said Walicon. This fellow was of
the Angola country, about 5 feet
5 inches high, about eighteen or
twenty years of age, had the ball
and part of the nail of his thumb on
the right hand, cut away 3 remark
able (mail feet and hands, had a
hole bored through each ear, and
had some of his country marks on
his breast, and from his manner of
talking, seemed to be but a little
time in this country. He was ask
ed his matter’s name, but refufed
telling it 3 and as this unfortunate
circumstance has come within my
knowledge, I therefore think it ne
cessary to make it public, that from
this deicription, the owner may
ground his proof for a rettitution.
