Mr. Printer ,
IT is but lately in looking over one of your
former papers, that I had fight of an Advertife
tnent let forth by Mr. Robert Watkins, refpeft
ing a bond of his to me, the objeft of which (pub
lication I cannot fee into, nor is it a matter worth
fearebing for further, than left from a cuifory
view of the paragraph, an uninformed reader
thou Id conclude That, Mr. Watkins had 011 his
part f illy complied with the condition of his bond,
in offering payments as stipulated therein. There
foie, in oider to prevent any mifeonftrutfion on the
matter, I fliall recite the particulars.
The bond I believe was given verbatim, or near
ly so, as expressed in that gentleman’s publication.
But the time of payment having elapsed without
any tender being made or offered ; (of course the
condition of his bond, as well as option in mode
of payment was forfeited) on the contrary, there
were tepeated applications from me to Mr. Wat
kins, and the only answers were, that he could
get my bonds, having had the promise of a great
m ny. Under this expectation, I waite 1 until
Court drew near, when I found suits would be
commenced against me, unless I gave Mr. Wat
kins’s bond in exchange tor my own, to-a gentle
man who had them This circumftauce Mr. Wat
kins was soon informed of. If Mr. Watkins had
conceived the condition of his bond not forfeited,
why not then have published i Or why, after being
fue.l upon that bond in the name of William
Bebb, he (liould twelve months after advertise his
having made tender of payments to Major Glaf
cock, said to be the holder, is truly matter of
wonder to me ? t
