By a HUSBAND; but not a Modem One*
HEN on thy bosom I recline,
▼ * Enraptur’d Bill to call thee mine
To call thee mine for life,
Glpry in the sacred ties
(Which modern wits and fools deipifc).
Os huiband and of wife-
Our mutual dame inspires our bliss;
The tender look, the melting kiss
E’en years have not deftroy’d :
Some Tweet sensation ever new
Spiinys up, and proves the maxim true,
That love can ne’er be cloy’d,
Fave I a wifli ’tie all for thee,
Haft thou a with, ’tis all for me;
• ' So foft our moments move,
That angels look with ardent gaze,
Well pleas’d to fee our happy days,
And bid us live and love.
If cares arise (and cares will come)
Thy boft m is my fofteft home,
I lull me there to rest :
And is there aught disturbs my fair,
I bid her sigh out all her care,
, And lose it in my bread.
Have I a joy, ’tis all her own,
Or hcr’s, or mine, are all but one,
Our hearts are - lo entwin’d,
That like the ivy round the tree,
Bound up in clot'eft amity,
’Tis death to be disjoin’d,

anecdote.
THE celebrated Michael Angelo, having re
ceived some insult from one of the Cardinals
of Rome, in revenge, painted a moftftriking likt
nefs of his enemy, and placed him among the
damned fuflering the torments of hell. The fatii e
had its eteft. It was the topic of general admi
ration and merriment. The Cardinal, flung with
the bittcruefs of the caricature, complained to his
Holinefo. Pope Leo was too much a lover of the
fine arts to gratify the Cardiual’s desire, and he
therefore told him, that he had it not in his power
to punifli the oteuder. “If (said he) the insult
had been laid in heaven, or the earth, of even in
purgatory, I could peihaps have redrelled you, for
I have iomething to fay in all these places, but I
have no iutereft in hell.

Mr. Printer , *
IT is but lately in looking over one of your
former papers, shat I had fight of an Advertife
meut set forth by Mr. Robert Watkins, reject
ing a bond of his to me, the objeft of which pub
lication I capn'Jt fee into, nor is it a matter worth
fearcbing for further, than left from a cursory
view of the paragraph, an uninformed reader
lhould conclude That, Mr. Watkins had on his
part fully complied with the condition of his bond,
in offering paymeats as stipulated therein. There
fore, in order to prevent any mifeonflruttion on the
matter, 1 thall recite the particulars.
The bond I believe was given verbatim, or near
ly so, as exprefted in that gentleman’s publication.
But the time of payment having elapsed without
any tender being made or offered ; (of course the
condition of his bond, as well as option in mode
of payment was foifeited) on the contrary, there
were repeated applications from me to Mr. Wat
kins, and the only anfvrers were, that he could
get my bonds, having had the promise of a great
many. Under this expectation, I waited until
Court drew near, when I found suits would be
commenced 1 again# me, cnlefs I gave Mr. Wat
kins’s bond in exchange for my own, to a gentle
man who had them This circumffance Mr. Wat
kins was soon informed of. If Mr. Watkins had
conceived the condition of his bond not forfeited
why not then hate published l Or why, after being
sued upon that bond ia the name of William
Bebb, he fliould twelve months after advertise his
having made tender of payments to Major Glaf
cock, laid to be the holder, is truly matter of
wonder to me ?

Notice to whom this may concern ,
THAT on Saturday, the 21 ft
in ft. a negro fellow named
1 W ILL, was taken on the planta
tion of Daniel Wallicon, len. near
s o Augusta, by his negroes, whom
they delivered to their master; and
as he was bringing him with an in
tention of delivering the fellow, as
he laid, up tojuftice, he died the
lame day, and from the creditable
witnesses who came before me, it
appears this was occasioned from
the cruel usage he received from
said Walicon. This fellow was of
the Angola country, about 5 feet
5 inches high, abouit eighteen or
twenty years of age, had the ball
and part of the nail of his thumb on:
the right hand, cut away $ remark
able small feet and hands, had a
hole bored through each ear, and
had some of his country marks on
his breast, and from his manner of
talking, feerned to be but a little
time in this country. He was ask-,
ed his matter's name, but refufed '
telling it j and as this unfortunate
circumstance has come within my
knowledge, I therefore think it ne
cessary to make it public, that from
this defeription, the owner may
ground his proof for a reftitutkm.
