his kneebands and ihoes were tied with drings.

“ Colonel Typton, the other day, appeared
with a party of about 50 men, of such as he could N
raise, under pretence of redrefling a quarrel that
had arisen between our Iheriff and the Iheriff of
North-Carolina, though their principal View was
to put themselves in poffedion of our records.—
This condurt produced a moil rapid report, that
they had made a prisoner of his Excellency to
carry him to Norrh-< arolina, which caused 200
volunteers to repair immediately to the house of
Colonel Typton’s, before they became sensible of
the mifiake; and it was only through the influ
ence of his Excellency that the opposite party did
not fall a facnfice to our Franks. During this time,
a body of about 1500 old veterans embodied them
selves in order to refeue their Governor (as they
thought) out of the hands of the North-Caroline
ans, and bring him back to the mountains; —an
instance that proves our citizens to have too noble
a spirit to yield to slavery, or to relilh a national
insult.
