An ACT for raifmg Supplies,
BE it enabled, by the Reprejenta
tives of the Freemen of the tate
o, Georgia, in General Ajjembly met ,
and by the authority of the fame, i hat
an additional tax ior the current year
be imposed on, and collected ot the
ii habitants, and others holding or
laying claim to property within this
ilate, to the amount of fix (hillings
and three pence on every hundred
pounds value, to be estimated in
the manner diredted by the General
Tax A6t, now in force for the pre
sent year, and so in proportion for all
»other taxable articles, agreeably to
thefaid Ads, to be paid in any or either
of the following articles, and at the
following rates : Good merchantable
rice, in good barrels, well coopered,
from five to fix hundred weight net
•e sch, per hundred weight, at four
teen (hillings; Indian corn, per bus
hel, at three (hillings; good mer
chantable wheat dour, in barrels, well
coopered, per hundred weight net,
at fourteen (hillings ; fah pork, per
barrel, weighing two hundred and
twenty weight net, at the rate of three
pounds ten (hillings per barrel; lait
beef, per barrel, weighing two hun
dred and forty weight net, at the rate
of sixty (hillings per barrel, good
frefh beef, delivered in camp, or to
the officer commanding any out pod,
on being approved of and certified
by the Commiflary of Issues, at three
pence per pound; two years old
deers, delivered in like manner, at
forty-five (hillings each; three years
old deers or good fat cows delivered
in like manner, at fifty- five (hillings
each; four years old deers and up
wards, delivered in like manner, at
seventy (hillingseach; good live pork,
to be delivered as aforefaid, at twen
ty-five (hillings per hundred, mak
ing a dedu&ion of thirty-three and
one-third per centum on all hogs at
or under one hundred weight gross,
and the deduction of twenty-five per
centum in like manner for all hogs
above one hundred weight gross.
And be it farther enabled > That the
Collectors of Taxes in each county
(ball notify the place or places for
the receipt of the atorefasd articles

within their reipettive counties, as
(hall be pointed out to each of them
by the Executive $ and iuch fpecific
payments as (hall be made
on or before the hid 1 utfday ni Ja
nuary next. And in rendering and
receiving the tax imposed by t*his
Ad, there fhali be no alternative
(except as by this Ad pointed outj
the fame being for the use and fub
iiltenceof the troops
And be it alj'o enadted by the autho
rity atorefaid\ That the laid Cul
ledtors relpedively, Irom and alter
the firft 1 uefday in January next,
(hall proceed against all deiaulters
whatever, by warrant of di(l« els un
der his hand a d feai, directed to the
hhenff of the county within the lame*
and in cales where the Sherd may
be Collector, he (hall have the power
and authority to distress in like man
ner as if the lame had been directed
to him by any other Collector, and
(ball leize and expoie to lale, any
property real or personal, which may
be found in any county within this
(late belonging to any defaulter {giv
ing ten days previous notice of luch
falc) at and alter the rate of ten
pounds flerling value, in gold or fii
ver coin, or current money of this
(late, in proportion to every one
pound flerling value in ftecifks efli—
mated as aforelaid, together with all
the cods and charges attending the
fame. And every Collector as afbre
faid (hdll keep a fair and correct re
gister of all lpecific articles by him
received, in which he fhali enter the
name or names of all and every per
(on and persons depositing articles as
aforefaid, and (hall oppefite to each
person’s name, put in the lpecific co
lumn or columns, the article or arti
cles, with the time of .the receipt
thereofs and (hall at the end of eve
ry month transmit a fair and corredl
copy thereof to the Executive, to be
examined by the Treasurer who
(hall compare the fame with the tax
anles purluant to the Tax Adi of the

ment and care of the lpecific articles .

And the neat amount thereof (hall
be paid into the! reafury ot the Hate,
for the purposes herein before re
cited.
And be it farther enabled by the au
thority aforefaid, » hat each t oi lector
as aloretaid, lhall be allowed at and
after the rate of two and one ha-f per
centum on all luch receipts, and (hall
give bonds with good and fufficient
security, in the like sums as are re
quired by the Tax Adi of the present
year, conditioned for the true and
taithful dilcharge of the duties re
quired by this Ad: And any per
ion being a defaulter in giving in ‘he
return ot his or her taxable proper
ty, atorefaid; alio, any person being
a defaulter in paying up his or her
proportion of the tax hereby imposed,
(hall be lubjedf to the lame dilabilities
while in default, as defaulters are
under, and by the Tax AO of the
pre:ent year, as well as the penalties
imposed by virtue of this Adi: And

firftdayof £pril next, account with
the Treasurer ot this Sta'e, for all
monies by him received under this
Adt.
And be it farther enacted \ That all
such fiippiies, as may be hereafter
advanced for *he support of any
troops in the iervice of this
State, (1 .all on full proof, be allowed
in difeount in the tax hereby imposed
as aforefaid.
And be it also enabled, That any
person furnifhii gthe State with one
hundred weight of good gunpow
der, and two hundred weight of lead
in bars or bullets, and placing the
fame in the hands of (uch person or
persons as (hall be appointed by the
Executive, each perlon furnifhingas
aforefaid, (hall be exempted from all
militia duty whatever, during the
present war with the Indians: And
