Masonic sermon was delivered by the Rev.
Brother Lindsay. The fraternity afterwards

The Ihip Charleston, Hunter, from Oftend,
and brig Nancy, Hurrey, from Liverpool,
ihip Patfey Rutledge, Bell, from Corke, are
arrived at Charleston.
The strip Naflau, Hunt, and febooner Nas
sau, M'Cann, are arrived in this river from
New-Providenee.

“Mr. Joseph Haberfliam, from tbe commit
tee on Finance, brought in a report in part,
Which is as follows :
' Refol-vedy That the Treafnrer be dire&ed
and required to receive in payment of all
obligations now in his office, as well for prin
cipal as interest, the current money of the
State, or any denomination of audited claims,
or warrants iftued under proper authority.
The Resolution was read, and agreed to
by the House.
The Honorable the’Legislature have been
pleased to appoint Colonel George Handley,
a Member of the Executive Council, in the
Toom of William Steven, Esq. who has
not taken bis feat.
The Honorable GEORGE HRNDI.EY,
is chosen President of the Honorable Exe-
ExecuiWe Council, in the room of William
O’Bryen, Erij. who has declined.
A Special Court of Oyer aud Teraik er was
lield -the Academy in this town, on the
days of Monday, Tuefday, and Wednesday
last, for the trials of Darby O’Sullivan, and
Robert Farifti.—Darby O’Sullivan inHifted'for
ihe murder of Frederic Snider, was. tried and
jkcquitreti, the having reiu’ped the r
rfift Not Guilty . Colonel Williams was At
torney for the commonwealth, and Mr. Clay
Counsel for the prisoner.
Robert Farfih indited for the mnrder of
Caleb Coleman, was tried and found Guilt, of
Manfaugbter . Colonels Williams and Few
were Attornies on the part of the State, and
Mr. Thomas Gibbons, Mr. Clay, and Mr
Seaborn Jones Counsel for the aforefaid Ro
bert Farilh.
The General Assembly of ’Norih-Carolina
have appointed the last Friday and Saturday
in March next for*he election of Delegates,
to meet in Convention on the firft Monday
in July, to deliberate and determine on the
New Federal Conftitutioa, and, if approved
of by them, to ratify the fame on behalf of
that state.

IN your Gazette No. 57. I find a publica
tion signed IVtlham Cochran , Rec. set
ting forth that Zachariah Philips, William
Philips, and Sylvanus Walker, were De
faulters . That the Public may judge of Mr.
Cochran’s veracity, and form fume idea of his
candour and uprightness, they are hereby in
formed that the returns made to the Clerk of
Greene county, prove the falfity of his publi
cation—made use of only to stigmatize the
characters of those Gentlemen, whole patrio
tic zeal has been evident both in the civil and
military department.

receive the excuses of the said
defaulters, if any they have; and
fine all such as do not (hew law
ful caufc to the contrary.
