otac* POET R y. yomxxxxx Br a FRIEND: Qccafiomd by the Death of the late Mrs. APPLING. WHILST that my amiable neighbour’s gone, To roam thro* regions far beyond the fun; To mingle with the bright seraphic- race, And view the glories of her Maker’s face ; To tafte.the pleasures of angelic life ; And reign secure from forruw, pain, and llrife; How gloomy, how disconsolate I rove, And rue her absence from the friendly grove! Withlilent tears, the en>pty rooms I trace, And mourn the absence of Melinda’s face ; Whose much-lov’d, animating, chearful smile Could all the sorrows of my heart beguile ; While sense, ceconomy, and prudence reign’d, In ev’ry attion of my much-lov’d friend; While conjugal, parental virtues glow’d And peace and harmony around her flow’d* —— But why indulge the unavailing tear ? Why cherish pain, already too severe ! 6he’s gone I no more the rural scene to tread No more her kindly influence to (hed ; No more with friendlhip’s balmy smile to chear TJie weeping friend, or dry the falling tear ! Jake then, bleft shade, this tribute of my love ’Till we lhall meet, with joy, in realms above. AMANDA. Kiokeef Dec . 15, 178.8.. ' * •- < * GE O R G lAi IBy Lewis Gardner , (L. S.)
