Honora to the Governor.
Tuesday last, the “birthday of Gui
George Washington, the fir.-t
President of the United States was
celebrate 1 in a brilliant manner
by the white military. Governor
Gordon who had been invited by
the Savannah Volunteer Guards, arr v
ed in tbe city in the morning and was
met by a delegation of officers and es
corted to the Pulaski House. Tbe
troops assembled at 10 o’clock on South
Broad street, under command of Col.
Geo, A. Mercer, acting Brigadier-Gen
eral, and after a short inarch proceeded
to the park extention. The Governor’s
staff assembled at the Pulaski House at
10 a. m. and soon after the tic ps had
passed the hotel, the Governor appeared
and Wiouuted the fine steed furnished for
his use and started for the parade
ground. The Governor is a superb
horseman and received the the plaudits
of people on his mute in an easy and
graceful manner 'I he review was
magnificent and the Governor was high
ly pleased with the appearance of the
troops. After the review a skirmish
drill took place between the Savannah
Cadets and Republican Blues. In the
afternoon ills Excellency witnessed a
Cavalry tilt between two platoons of the
Georgia Hussars, and attended a *ball
given in his honor in the evening. On
Wednesday a public reception was held
at the Exchange when a large number
of citizens called to show their respects
to their chief magistrate. The Governor
left for Atlanta in the evening much
pleased with his reception in the Forest
