the death on Wednesday last of old
‘‘Father Allen one of the founders
of the A. M. E. church in this city
and the oldest member of the official
board of St. Philips.

The Union Cornet Band celebra
ted their Bth anniversary at Odd-
Fellows’ hall, on Monday night last
by giving a grand ball. The mayor
and aidermen and a number of
other officials and distinguished
citizens were invited. Short
speeches were made by Judge
Harden, Major John Schwarz, and
Mr. Frank E. Rebarer, clerk of
council.

nah on Sunday last and officiated
in the different Episcopal churches,
performing the rite of confirmation
at St. Stephen’s in the afternoon.
