A Sonoma Eagle.
The Santa Rosa Republican soys: A
peculiar story is told of an eagle which
Bad been watched for thirteen consecu
tive years by the residents of a quiet
▼alley not many miles from thiscity. The
same eagle has for the above named
period of years built her nest in a cave
and there reared her young unmolested.
She will regularly in the spring come
from some unknown place, lay her eggs
•nd hatch her young. After the young
•re old enough to take care of themselves
»he leaves them in the valley and flies
•way, and is not seen again in that
neighborhood until the following spring
has come. Where she goes to and
where she comes from no one is able to
tell. The young seldom follow her oft',
but stay in the valley and are shot or
•tray away. In the spring, when she
comes to build her nest, she will fly di
rectly over the cave for several days;
tiie meaning of this nobody is able to
tell, but the supposition is that it is to
find out whether the cave is occupied by
varmints or birds of her own nature.
Each day she con be noticed lowering
down toward the ground, until at last
•he reaches the cave. After this, per
haps, she is not again seen for a we jk,
when she will come out in search of
food.
