The young white roughs who
make a practice of assembling at
Railroad stations to do the dirtv
work that the officers of the road
dare not do. and no respectable
gentlemen would think of doing,
i had best 100 out and remember
that there are colored passengers
who know their rights and dare
maintain them, and those who are
so low and degraded as to molest
them must in the future be prepared
to meet the consequences. For the
Negro has fully made up his mind
to have nothing less than what he
is legally entitled to by the law, and
those interfering with them in the
future will do so at their own risk.
A hint to the wise is sufficient.

A Kind lef by 8. 8 Adams
’ Esq-,
We have been informed during the
week of the following facts in the case
of the State vs. Rowland Williams who
was convicted lime sinoe in tne
Superior v C»urr.'of as- u r with in •nt
to murder and through the inexperience
or indifference of his lawyer he was
found guilty and sentenced to 3 years
in the penitentiary. Afterward Mr.
Adams became interested in his bel a f
and moved fbr a new trial which Was
gi anted but it seems that his family
failed to send the money to pay his pas
sage home, therefore the motion was of
no service to him. Mr Adams with
his usual zeal determined not to be out
done in the matter, sent to the Govern,
or an abstract of the proceedings in the
case wbo after examining the same,
ord. red the immediate discharge of the
prisoner If the ab.>ve is true, as we
have every reason to believe, the colored
people of this county owe Mr Adams
a debt of gratitude for his efforts iu
behalf of one of their often persecun d
race which was rendered voluntarily—
without a hope of reward.
