P77/A’ GEORGIA INFAMY BILL.
■ TheJcint Committee of the Sen
ite and house of Representatives
>f Georgia has agreed to recom
nend the passage of the Glenn bill
vhich puts any person on the chain
rang who may teach a colored
ihild in a white school or a white
hild in a colored school mention of
trhich was made in last week’s is
tie of the Tribune. The proposed
egislation is aimed at the Atlanta
Juiversity and was opposed by the
lolored members of the committee;
md on account of its u o epublican
and undemocratic character is at
;racting great attention throughout
bp whole country. The bill is m
atnous and a disgrace to the ‘‘New
Joiith.” It is tin-onstitutional,
Resides being unnecessary and can
jdt be enforced, but may involve
he State in litigation- It is a step
backward for Georgia and she will
'eceive merited contempt for her
action.
; The bifi will undoubtedly be
passed by the Legislature now, to
stand as a monument ot infamy to
file boasted intelligence and civiliza
lion of the ‘‘New South” in the ex
piring nineteenth century.
j THE OHIO CONVENTION.
The Republican Convention of
Ohio has re-nominated for Govern
br Hon. Jos B. Foraker, and wh it
is jof vital Interest to the whole
country it unanimously endorsed
and recommended Hon. John Sher
man for the pesidein v of the United
States with tremendous enthusiasm
I The platform of principles is an
■able and admirable document, deal
ing with the questions of concern to
the people in a masterly manner.
It deals at lare with the Tariff,
showing the benefi’s derived from
pr Section; urges Congress tn pass
laws to protect us from the vicions
’classes that flock to this coun rv
to become citizens to diminish the
dignity and reward of American
I workingmen: wants Congress to
gtake control and su, e vision of
Congressional elections; favors lib
s oral pensons to soldiers and ade
| qua’e appropriations for the im-
provement of our national water
ways and national aid to education.
It condemns the treatment of the
men who labor in the South and are
wrongfully deprived of the rights
and powers of American citizen
ship; and recognizing the men who
labor as the real producers of pros
perity and wealth and th-* sole
security of the republic and its tee
institutions, it demands a free ballot
and fair count in all sections ot the
country —ami extends its hearty
sympathy to Gladstone and Pained
in their efforts to secure home rule
for Ireland.
The document will commend
itself to all patriotic and liberty
loving citizens.
