The crowning of the Queen of the Fair,
at Odd Fellow's Hall, Duffy street this week,
took placed on last night. Miss Mary L.
Nesbit, daughter of Rev. John Nesbit,
being the Queen’elect. Procession was march
ed in and upon the ‘ stage, Miss Mamie
Humphries, the Queen of Flowery, Rev. H.
H. Taylor, the Queen and Mr. Vanlew.
with a few remarks Rev. Taylor presented
the crown and as a present a very handsome
cup and saucer and the Qneen of Flowers
presented a lovely bouquet, the Queen then
received with a nice little speech. At four
o’clock this afternoon the fair will be opened
and the Live Pigeon Pie will be exhibited
to night when the fair will close.

STATE SUNDAY SCHOOL CON
VENTION.
The Sixth Annual Session of the
Baptist Sunday school Convention held
in July in the City of Augusta was the
largest and most important yet held.
The Convention was called to order by
Mr. J. H. Brown, the president. Much
valuable work to the Sunday school up
building was accomplished. A resolu
tion opposing the donating of the SBOOO
which the Legislature proposes to take
from the Atlanta University, to any
denominational school. The' Conven,
tion by its action seems to have won the
respect and confidence of the Augusta
Chronicle, which gave splendid reports
of the proceedings, and spoke in the
highest terms of the power and ability,
i of the bodv. The following officers
I were elected for the ensuing year,
| President John H. Brown; Vice-presi
dent, Rev. E. R. Carter; Secretary.
Pev. C. T. Walker; Assistant Secreta-
D, Rev. C. H. Lyons; Treasurer, Rev.
K. K, Love. The convention adjourned
to meet in this city in May, 1888.

The Military Parade and celebra
tion-
'I he Ist Battalion Georgia Volun
teers will celebrate its 7th anniversary
on Monday 15, by a parade 6 o’clock in
the morning. After the parade the
members wid proceed to Thunperbolt
Race Cou'-se on the Coast Line Road,
where the day will b“ spent. The fol
lowing programme has been arranged.
Teams from the companies will coti’end
for a prize—to be awarded the one
making the highest score at 200 yards
Game of base ball between two crack
clubs. Address by General Whipper
on race unity. Them will then be a
grand race between Texas horses, quite
a number entries having been made for
the sport. A very large,’crowd will no
doub' be present, and a day of great en
joyment is anticipated. The first train
will leave at 9 o’clock a. m

We attended the Annual Missionary
Meeting of Asbury, M. E. church, July
31, 1887 which was a very p’easant one

ertson, Dr. Alex. Harris, Rev. D. A.
Gibbs and M. R. Wilson The church
altar and.pulpit were beautifully deco
rated with flowers and bouquets of a'l
; kiods. such as moss, primroses, daises,
white jasmines, myrtle vines, ivy vines.

missionaries that they so well care for
now. The meeting closed with satis
factory results. Benediction by Rev. S.

book for ages to come in vindicating the
