wishes of our citizens as to whether the
South Broad street cemetery should be
used as a site for the proposed new
courthouse*
Jam<s C. Collins and James Dupree
who was recently tried in the Superior
Court fo T cow stealing was found guilty.
Dupree was sentenced to two years in
the penetentiary while Collins got 12
months on the chain gang.
The Social Club one of the wealthier
association amopg colored men in this
county held their annual meeting on
Monday night last at the residence of
Mr Thad. A. Morel. The entire old
board of officers were re-elected. After
the business of the meeting was over
the boys held one of their “old time”
happy re-unions which continued until
the “tree ma hour a."
The Galatians Centennial Club No. 2, wll
give a grand egg festival on Monday night
December 12, at Odd Fellows temple, Daffy st.
The News and Courier blows about the
amount of work executed by the letter
carriers of that city. If our ‘over
homer” friends could have seen the
amount of hustling that was done by
our ooys on that day they wojild have
went in their holes and attempt to pull
the hole over them.
Jahns Maccaw a prominent insurance
agent on Bay street disappeard a few
days ago for parts unknown, leaving a
note with a friend bearing the signi
loant expression: “ran away.” The
amount of obligations that was left
behind to mourn his sudden departure
amounted to about $3,000. Thus again
we chronicle with regret “dissipations”
victim to the lot of defaulters,

The Colored Acme Dramatic Com
pany exhibited themselves very
creditably at the Theatre on Mon
day night last. The audience was
not as large as was expected, but it
was in every way a grand success
for the company.

Fellows. Workingmen Union and all
other soci ties in our city by so doing
we all can agree happily on a pirn to
have a gr»nd celebration. We should
n»t be asb ep to our duty but should
arouse as one man and act. and that
promptly. Let us sh> w to the world that
we are not an ungrateful race; let the
conv< ntion be called early as’possible
that prop r steps may be taken to per
fect the matter

day evening last. After the marriage cere
mony a wedding en'ertainm nt was given
at Odd Fellows hall. H irris street compli
men tar y to the bride and groom which was
attended by a large nnmt er of friends, and
a most enjoyable time had.

Mrs. Patro Wallace aged 76 years
died on Thursday morning at 10
o’clock, and her daughter Mrs Rose
Perkins died at 7 o’clock p. m., the
same day, aged 49 years. The fu
neral of the latter will take place
from Ezra Presbyterian church
Sunday morning at 10 o’clock.
