N. C. Robertson, Esq., of the Atlan
ta Herald staff, paid us a call on Mon
day morning last. We found Mr. Rob
ertson a very plaasant gentleman in con
versation, and who seemed w’ell posted

T m W shington, an old emplovee of
Capt. M. J. Doyle, departed this life on
Tuesday last. Tom has been sick for
the past two months with a pulmon
ary complaint. He was about 32 years
of age, and was regarded as an honest,
faithful and upright man? We under
stand that he was in the employ of Capt.
Doyle for about fifteen years, and none
regards his loss more than his late em
ployer.

ter from Rev M R Wilson stating cause
that prompted him to tender his re-ig
nation as pas or ol St James Tabernacle
We have known R< v Wilson for a
number of years and a’ways found him
an excellent gentlemen, a faithful, ear
nest Christian worker. There are hun
dreds of good citizens in in this city ir
respective of denominations, who will
join with the Tribune in expressing
regrets to the cause that induce the Rev
erend gentleman to take such a step.
The case of the colored woman Win
nie Bryant, who was several times ar
rested and carried to Sylvania, Ga, at
tracts considerable attention, and we are
pleased to know that onr able and inde
fatigable solicitor general has taken the
matter in hand and proposes to investi
gate the case thoroughly, Mr Clifton,
the attorney for the woman, says that
“it is thought that the white man Wil
liams used the law as a cloak to get
Winnie back to his home, and that she
is stopping there real>y under duress”

First Bryan Sunny School."
The First Bryan Baptist Sabbath
School, as announced, held their
exercise on Sunday evening last. Long
before the commencement, the chu.ch
was crowded with a large concourse ot
people.- At 8 o’clock the organ pealed
forth a march and the school in stately
» form came in and took the position as
signed. The programme was opened
with singing, and prayer was offered by
Deacon J. H. Brown. Supt. of the First
African Baptist School, The paper on
“The Bible” was ably discussed by Mr.
C, W. Foster, and the “Old Testament”
by Miss L. E. Brown, was superb; after
which the classes went through their
differgntparts to the ecstasy of the audi
“Second Samuel” by Miss Lula
Harris, was the crowting piece of the
evening; it was delivered in a irracefnl
manner, and received applause from
the audience. Miss Bessie Foster de
livered “Joel’’ in excellent style. The
programme was carried to its end, and
was a grand success. The Superinten
dent and his efficient corps of teachers
deserve much credit for the manner in
which it was conducted.

the object of the happy group when we
noticed the eager display of croquet
pleasure facilities. Twelve of this com
pany entered one and the same game,
which was skillfully and ardently prose
cuted throughout the whole afternoon,

of croquet Mr. Mclntosh with Mrs.

tie between Mr. Ross and his two part
ners Misses Cashion and R Brown; Mr
Snelson with Mr. Monroe and Miss Carey

Miss M. Gaston partners in the other
game led hotly pursued by the invinci

closed a grand Sunday School con
vention at Gleninore, Ga., and the
meeting was a very interesting and
profitable one. It convened on
Saturday at 10 o’clodk a. in., and
continued through the Sabbath
Through the hospitality of the S.F.
it W. Riilroad company, we had
the use ot a coach and took out on
Saturday a large crowd of children
at reduced rates. It was a happy
crowd and all who attended were
highly delighted with the meeting.
We were also favored in the Sab
bath with the truck cars of Mr.
Beckworth free of charge which
brought out a great crowd from his
mills; all of which we are Very grate
ltd for, and take this occasion to thus
express our thanks now. Many
good speeches Were made by the
workers, male and female of the
Sunday School. I also received
several copies of the Tribune and
disposed of them readily and could
have disposed of a hundred it I had
had tnem. Everybody were advis
cd to subscribe for it and no doubt
will soon. We adjourned to meet
