The Ejection in Chatham.
The election on Wednesday went
in favor of the Democratic candi
d itts for the L'-gislaiure and Messrs
W. W. G o»don, Win. Clifton and
Col. Peter Reilly were elected.
T e Republicans requested the
appointment of one manager for
each box and sufficient clerks,
th’ough Capt. L. M. Pleasant, chair
man of the Republican County
Committee, but only two clerks were
appointed.
The returns ns made out were as
follows :
For ratification of amendment of para

stitution ' . 1371
Against ratification 4
Majority for ratification 1,367
For Governor, John B. Gordon 1,361

William Clifton, Dem 1,266
Peter Reilly, Dem 1,258
W H Mathews, Rep. 374
L M Pleasant, Rep 367
sB Morse, Rep 365
The Republicans did not vote on
she question of the amendment nor
State officers. Out of a registra
tion of 3,364 about one half of the
voters exercised the election fran
chise. Considerable scratching was
done by the friends of Col, Reilly
and Capt- Gordon as against thfSe
of Messrs, dußignon and Clifton,
which grew out of the two first
named to define their position on
the convict labor question, and to
make the County Commissioners
elective by the people.
Messrs. Gordon and Reilly had a
ticket printed with their names
thereon in small type with
Prof. Morse, a light pencil mark
being drawn tnrough the names of
Messrs. Pleasant and Matthews.
This ticket was a wav to sacrifice
Mr. Clifton and is bitterly tdr by
the friends of the lai ter. The Re
publicans are also incensed at the
trick, a large number of the tickets
being {probably cast by unsuspect
ing Republicans. Following is the
deceptive ticket which was circu
lated by C. H. Ebbs and Lem Wade,
c >lored:

Assembly from Chatham

The bottom of the ticket was
folded under on the dotted line and
thus a large number of colored men
voted contrary to their intention.
TBiITORSIfHE CAMP!
REPUBLICANS BEWARE.
At the election on Wednesday last,
one Lemuel Wade and one Charles 11.
Ebbs, one a longshoreman and the other
a porter on the Bay and Clerk in the
First African Baptist Church of Savan
nah, were distributing tickets with the
names of Mr G rdon and Rney, demo*
ocrat candidates names written at the
bottom and t ided to deceive the confid
ing and unsuspve iug voter. Wade and
Ebbs hive hereto f-ue affiliated with the
Republican party and Wade is a prime
mover and treasurer ot the Committee
ofCol red Men who have been formed to
prosecute Wescott and Weidner for
the killing of Burke and D vautz And
as Chairman of the county and of the
First Congressional District, I hereby
warn you not to countenance or trust
the above named parties longer as Re
publicans, but scorn them as you would
rm adder and let them take their place
in the Democratic party, where they
rightfully belong. Very Respectfully,
L. M. Pleasant,
Chairman Rep. Dist and Co. Com.
