Harrison and Morton will sweep the eonntrv on November 6 h. | The Georgia Legislature will con vene on Wednesday the 7th of November. The prospects are that Hon, Flem ing G. du Bignon will be the next president of the Georgia Sen ate. ■*- J. M. "’ii.son the I) mocratic tax collector of Fulton county, is short in his accounts to the amount . of $29,000. The Republicans of this counts have made up their mind that they will be heard from in the contest in ' January next. Our friem’s must be careful on the 6th of November, and see that „ they get the right ticket. Beware f of traitors. The Tribune still lives and will continue to show np deception whenever practiced on the race, regardless of who the parties are. Hon.A. Wilson of Camden county, . who waa defeated for the Legisla ture at the last election by fraud is making a noble contest for the place 1 At the session of the Most W. Grand Lodge ol F. A if. for the i State of Illinois, held at Peoria last week, E. H Smith of Chicago was elected M. W. G. M. Mr. Norman the defeated Demo cratic candidate for the Legislature from Liberty county, is contesting the seat of Hon. S. A. Mclver, Re publican candidate elect. Tub Comptroller General’s re port for 1888 shows that the amount of property owned by colored peo ple has been doubled since 1879 at which time it was $5,182,398; it is now $9,631,271. The American Baptist says: “There are coining to be a good many D. Ds. among our colored brethren.” Well suppose there are Brother Simmons; do vou object ? Hon. John M. May nieces* attend your 1 effoits friends, is the Tribune’s J wishes, ( I ■' ■ I - , ,■■ The Hon. Julius Schwarz has beep nominated by thy Republicans of the eighth district of New York for Congress. The Atlanta Journal takes the opportunity in Mr. Schwarz’s nomination by the Re publicans to say that he wag nomi ated by that party for the ostensi ble* purpose of catching ‘‘the large Hebrew vote in that district.” We know of many prominent Jews in this city who have been nominated and elected to positions oflionor and trust, and we have never heard the charge made that their nomination and election were made “to catch the large Jewish vote.” Thcno m* ination of Mr. Schwarz shows the wisdom of the Republicans. Every Republican in the first Congrassional district ihould takn immediate steps to qualify himself that he may cast his vote on ' Tuesday November 6 li for Har rison and Morton and Snelson. It is a duty they owe to themxolves and their children and they should not be reluctant or tardy in per forming it. Already the tocsin ot alarm has been sounded by the De mocrats urging more activity on the part of these leaders for fear ot Sneison’s election. Remember friends that eternal vigilance is the price of liberty; so be up and ado . ing from now until the sun sets on November 6th. In a republic like ours where the citizen is the soverign and the offici al the servant, where no power ,s exercised except by the will ol the people, it is very important I hat the soverigns the people should possess intelligence. The tree school is a promoter ol that intelligence which is to pre serve the nation; therefore the State or the nation, or both combined, -houid support tree institutions of learning sufficient, to afford every 1 child growing up in the land the opportunity ot a good common school edue ition. -Republican Plat form, Thomas Ax worthy, city treasur er of 01 veland, Ohio, and one of <be most prominent democratic leaders of that city, has Siiddunl} disappeared and is supposed to be on his way to Germany. His book were examined and bis accounts was found to be short only $500,000 and unis we record another illustra tion of democratic honesty (?)
