He was born in 1850 on the Great Pee Deg river, near Ma¬ rion, South Carolina. In 1777 he married Miss Ma- riah Blackwell and to this union was born seven children, Dr. I. D. Williams of Savan¬ nah; Mrs. Ella Gorhum Man : grum of Cox, Mrs. Sarah Wal-, ker of Brunswick, Jesse Wil- liams of St. Augustine, Fla.; Ira Williams of St. Augustine, Fla (deceased 1 ; Ivey B. Wil- liams of Galveston, Texas; and Mrs. Janie Williams " Summers N ™ Y ° rk d ‘y. He left fifteen grand chil- dren, eleven great grand chil- dren and one sister, Mrs. Rose Fuller of Hastings, Fla. His wife died in 1934 and he married Mrs. Mary Joyner 1935, who also died four years later. He lived in Georgia fifty nine years and was a member ;of the M. E. church. M. E. church at which his fu¬ neral was held on December 8. j Burial was in Mt. Hope cemete ry. Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gertrude E. Car ter; a sister, Mrs. Georgia Montgomery of Magnolia, O.; two brothers, John Carter of Walterboro, S. C., and Daniel Carter of Lake Wales, Fla., and several nephews and nieces and other relatives.
