VERANDA PARTIES
Yes! we still have verandas, even
though we may call them front
porches, side porches, or whatever
we wish. The veranda of grand¬
mother’s day, according to her dic¬
tionary, was a "piazza”. Our dic¬
tionary calls it a "covered balcony
or open portico” — but It is still
a veranda and a mighty fine place
to sun yourself, rest, cool off, play
chess or chat.
And It’s a super-perfect place
to sorve lunch at those parties
children have so frequently this
time of year. Let them play on the
la^.m, In the yard or wherever they
wish. Serve luncheon on the ver¬
anda, where even the sudden sum¬
mer shower fails to molest them.
But serve light meals at these
parties — meals that will not Inter¬
fere with dinner at home, later on.
A glass of lemonade or other fruit
juice; some home-made cookies;
tiny peanut butter or jelly sand¬
wiches; and an attractive, light,
healthful dessert such as a dish of
rennet-custard — made early that
morning and served ice-cold from
the refrigerator or ice-box.
Here are two recipes for such a
dessert:
Ribbon Rennet-Custard
4 cups milk (not canned)
1 pkg. vanilla rennet powder
1 pkg. raspberry rennet powder
Set out 8 or 9 individual dessert
glasses. Warm slowly 2 cups milk,
stirring constantly. Test a drop
on inside of wrist frequently.
