Today recalls saa memories
Of a loved one gone to rest
Those who think of her today
Are the ones who loved her
best.
Friends may think we have
forgotten
When at times they see us
smile
But little do they know the
heartaches
That one smile hides all the
i while.
When we were all at home to¬
gether
Those days we enjoyed most
Jut now that you are gone,
dear Ruth,
Our dreams have all been lost
None knows the silent heart*
aches
Only those who have lost can
tell
Of the grief that is borne in
silence
For the one we loved so well.
sad but true, we wonder
why
So quick, so sudden, Ruth had
to die
Her cheerful smile and loving
ways
Are pleasant to recall,
Days of sadness still come over
us
Secret tears often flow
But memories keep you ever
near us
Though you left us two years
ago.
You had a smile for everyone
And died beloved by all.
A face that is ever before us
A voice we cannot forget
A smile that will last forever
m memory we can see you yet.

On the one hand, if these
public servants misunderstand
or miscalculate the importance
of their responsibility to the
public and to their race, they
will bungle an opportunity;
pie, * that Negroes can not
shoulder responsibility.
On the other hand, if the
rest of us fail to respect these
people—the policemen and . oth- ^

are in the eyes of the law;
if our attitude is one of resis¬
and hostility; or if we
think Negro policemen mean
immunity and concealment for
Negro law-breakers, then we
fail to recognize that these
confront 11 s with a crisis
a challenge.
All of these events have been
