Many out of town visitors attended the convention
of the South Atlantic Medical Association and its auxil¬
iary. The Business luncheon held on Thursday at the
Re rea'tion (’enter and presided over by Mrs. F. K. Mc¬
Lendon of Atlanta was a very beautiful affair. The
ladies were seated around a long attractively decorated
table where a most colorful luncheon was served- Dr
M. I>. Bryant, president of the State Medical Society ex¬
tended hearty greetings to the group. Mr. Boyd, Na¬
tional representative of the PepsLCola Company, gave
brief remarks. The reception held from 9 to 11 at th ’
center made all feel as if they were in an enchanted for¬
est. The place w as surrounded with trees, flowers,
palms, grass, lawn furniture and a decorated table—a
picturesque setting. Those responsible for the decora¬
tions and arrangements under the chairmanship of Mrs.
Jamie L. Bryant (who really haas a knack for such things)
were Mrs. E. J. Smith, Mrs. Edna Alston, Mrs. S. F. Fra¬
zier, Mrs. J. W. Jamerson, Sr., Mrs. Mazie Lavender, Mrs.
Wilma Hopkins, Messrs. James Tuten and James Wiley.
Mesdames T. J. Smith and Earl Fonvielle presided at the
punch bowl. Members of the South Atlantic Auxil¬
iary were in the receiving line along with out of town
gut sts which included Mesdames H. E. Nash, S- E. McLen¬
don, F. E. Shorter, .Jr., William N. Harper, C. B. Harper,
Hr- Hattie Warner, Mesdames S. M. Lewis, M. A. Thom¬
as, and H. K. Anderson all of Atlanta, Mesdames W, A.
Davis and R. Stillinder Smith of Macon, Mrs. E. J. Reid
of Cordele, Mrs. F. E. Dawson of Detroit, Mich., Mrs.
Ernest Paige of Phil., Pa., and Mrs. C. M. Wigfall of
Brunsv ck. The local auxiliary members who were
most charming hostesses and most gorgeously gowned

Home Economics Derartment under the supervision
Mrs. Ella Epting- Greetings were extended bv Mrs. F.
E Dawson of Detroit, Michigan, National Officer of the
Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs. After the brunch
the group attended the chapel exercises where the dynam-
ic and accomplished sneaker, Mrs. J. B. Burnev, Dean
of Women at Clark College, spoke on some of the Requi-
sites of Success. This address was so enthusiastically
rte,iv(„i by the faculty and atudent body that although
r.i.oultime was past due no concern was shown. There was
reallv an unusual degree of attention The last session
w tas completed at Wilmington Island where the Auxiliary
was guest of the South Atlantic Medical Society. After
a delicious Seafood dinner (with all the trimmings) the
meeting adjourned until next year where it will be held
m Atlanta. The new officers are President Mrs. So-

was very impressive being conducted by the women of
the church. Dr. Leonea B. Dudley, professor and head
of the English department at Georgia State College was
the guest speaker- Her address was a challenge to all
women. Her subject was “Women the Most Powerful
Element in Humanity.” Among those seen at this ser-'

been awarded a fellowship of over $2,000 from the Julius ;
Rosenwald iur.d for being one of. the moat promising

accompanied by Joseph Hopkins motored from Washing¬
ton last week to visit their parents, Dr. and Mrs- J- W.
Jamerson, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Honkins, Sr. Dr.

Mrs. Mildred (Mluige) Steele Strider . convalescing .

at, the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Steele
after a successful operation at Charity hospital. Mrs.
Steele is just recovering tri m a serious fall she had a few
weeks ago. Here’s hoping that both Mildred and her
mother will continue to improve.
