class of ’44 and attended Atlanta University working in
the field of English, has decided she’d rather be Mrs.
than Miss.—The lucky gentleman is Mr. Dublin McDonald
of Savannah who is now studying Dentistry at Howard.
The marriage is to be performed in Washington, D. C.
After a honeymoon in New York the bride will return to
Texas where she is a teacher in the English Department,
at Prairie View College. The groom will return to Wash¬
ington to complete his studies. Miss Porter is the niece
of Mrs. Gladys Forter Broughton who is a teacher at
Maple Street school.
Miss Lois Wilson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Wil¬
son is here spending part of her vacation with them.
Lois has just returned from Talladega College. Congratu¬
lations for making the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Mrs. Rudolph Reid of Darien, Ga., is here spending
the summer with her husband Mr. Rudolph Reid. Mrs.
i»*Reid is a teacher of English in the Todd-Grant High School
of Darien.
The Orchid of the week goes to Dorothy Mclver,
June graduate of Beach High for being the recipient of
the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority scholarship, the Talla¬
dega College Award, the Music award and the Geor¬
gia State College honor award. Something for her fam¬
ily to be proud of, isn’t it? Congratulations also to Rose
Lhtson for receiving the Iola Phi Lambda Sorority Scholar¬
ship award and a Music award; to Florenc Loadholt for
receiving the Beta Phi Beta Scholarship; Willie Mae
Polite receiving the Georgia State College Honor Student
award; Willie"Mae Polite and John Levy the Benjamin History
award; Johnnie Mae Capers, Julian Brunson,
Quatlebaum the Music award; Vienna Thorn, The Geor¬
gia State College Honor Student award. The Delta Sig¬
ma Theta Sorority gives a $500 regional scholarship
which is won through a competitive examination given
annually in April. Miss Vienna Thorn won honorable
nigntion from the test this year.
Miss Jane Parker Starr will leave this week for Ann
Harbor where she will attend the University of Michigan
in order to continue her work on her Masters degree in
music. Her husband, John Starr who will finish his Pre-
Dental course at Lincoln in February wall accompany her.

the Aurora Engraving School in Missouri. 'He is now on
the Tribune Staff. Marion has. a rich tenor voice ancj
inspired the members of the First Congregational Church
last Sunday morning by beautifully singing “Dad” “The Holy
City,” Music runs in the family as his is now a
mefnber of the choir, his aunt, Mrs. Nettie Gordon was
for many years a faithful member of thesame group as
well as his beloved grandmother, the late Mrs. Marion
Tolbert for who he was named.
