Since he was not permitted

NEED DESPERATE
FOR POLIO FUNDS
SAN ANTONIO, Texas The
desperate need for a rec
era ls49 March of Dime
campaign was stressed bv Dr.
C. Austin Whittier, president
of the National Medical Asso¬
ciation-. Dt. Whittier pointed
out that polio care during the
last eleven years has become
complex and expensive.
“Before the National Foun¬
dation fc.r Infantile Paralysis
was organized in 1938, polio
patients were treated by a
general physician and a nurse
But research has discoverel
of this crippling
disease. Instead of the old
of two, today’s victim is
aided by a medical group with
as many as eight members.”
These scientific experts, Dr.
Whittier said, are the pediatri¬
cian, orthopedist, doctor of
physical medicine, nurse, phy-
therapist, occupational
therapist, medical social worker
and psychological consultant.
“The scientific know-how'
behind this polio fighting
team has been gained at great
and care is expensive,”
said Dr. Whittier. “Few fami-
lies, even those with high
power, can meet the
of polio treatment. It
is therefore comforting for all
of us to know that National
Foundation local chapters
stand ready to underwrite all
or any part of this expense.”
