COLUMBIA, S. C—The con¬
struction of a $1,834,000 rental
housing pro.Uct for Negroes
was approved here last week
by H. E. Bailey, director of the
Federal Housing administration
here. To be known as Wash-
ington-Carver village, this will
be the first private industry
development for Negroes in Co¬
lumbia.
Construction of the 346-unit
project will begin within a
month, W. S. Hogan, owner and
builder, promised. Four room
units will be rented unfurnish¬
ed at about nine dollars a week.
Land owners have no prop¬
erty rights in transitory game
on their lands.
Lee Vines is the handsome new
announcer assisting Bob Hawk on
the quizmaster's Monday, CBS pro¬
gram. Vines, who began his radio
career in Camden, N. J. in 1933,
spent two years in the infantry
during the war, then did some act¬
ing as well as announcing when he
returned to the mike marts. Like
his boss, Bob Hawk, Vines was once
a disk jockey.
