GARY, Ind. (ANP) — White

The company outing, an an¬
nual affair, had been held on
the same grounds in 1947 and
1948, but the attendant told
the group the area was “re¬
stricted.”

Mrs. George Lumpkins. Tommy
Fitzgerald, manager of the play
area, told them they could not
enter. He sent them home in
a private car when they ex¬
plained they had no means of
getting back because they had
come out on a chartered bus.

Policy Man’s
Home Raided
ST. LOUIS (ANP)—St. Louis
police officers, hot on the trail
of the city's three million dol¬
lar policy racket, raided the
home of Ezra Harris, reputed
policy king, last week, and sev¬
en other spots.
They arrested 28 persons in¬
cluding several members of
Harris’ family: Mrs. Alta Har¬
ris, his wife; Hosea Harris, his
brother, and Thraceton G. Har¬
ris, his 19-year-old son.

the time of the raid. He is
called by police one of the big
five in the St. Louis numbers
game. A warrant has been

Center became a reality Sunday
afternoon when the projeet’s
new home was dedicated in a
program, short but intensely
interesting, before a crowd of
about two hundred white and
colored citizens.
Commander Frank W. Spen¬
cer was master of ceremonies
and the dedicatory address was
delivered by B. H- Levy, chair¬
man of the Greenbriar cam¬
paign.
Describing the project as
“just good old fashioned
American democracy at work,”
Mr. Levy paid high tribute to
those who were instrumental in

at the Citizenship Day celebra¬
tion of the Citizens Democratic
club which will be held at
Sportsman’s Park, according to

nic form and with a softball
