Capacity Crowd Witnesses
Dramatized Communion
A capacity crowd f.ll d the
spacious main auditorium oi
,ue First A rlcan Baptist church
at their special communion ser¬
vice last bunday, to witness the
dramatized service, which was
built around the relig.ous dra¬
ma wr.uen .specially ior tne
occasion by Dr. Ralph Mark
Gilbert, pastor of the church,
entitled “Sacrament." Twenty-
six young men, all of whom
have worked over a period of
some years with th s pastor-
dramatist, r .-enacted the theme
of the conspiracy against
Chr st Which was entered into
by the IPgh Priest Caiaphas,
and bv Aaron, coed, AimsD,
Gabba. and Levi; then the dis¬
ciples were se n on the high¬
way leading to t ie upper Room,
where they were later joined
by M ssiah. The role of Caia-
pnas, the H' n h Priest, was done
by Leroy Bolden, one of the
teachers at Beach high school,
who has played this same role
n others of Dr. Glib rt’s dra¬
matizations. Aaron was inter¬
preted by Matthew Brown;
nv d was done bv Thomas C.
Johnson, Jr., while Vernon
trued played Annas; and Gab-
bai was done by Herbert Jon s,
and Levi by Harmon Lavender.
l ie host to Christ and His
twelve disciples was very effec¬
tively play ci by Louis
playing the role of Jonas. The
disciple Peter was played by
lessie Morgan, who has become
almost an impersonation of
this particular personization, as
was the case w.th Frank C- Mc-
Moore, who has played Judas
very consistently many times
before O tiers portraying va¬
rious disciples were: John Man-
igo, Phillip Green. Richard
Hedt, Ellis Trappio, Harry
.Tamos. Edward Webb, Nathan¬
iel Maxwell, Abraham Harden,
James Middleton and George
Chisholm. The Temple Guards
were Willie Chisholm, Richard
Gordon, James Johnson, Eulia
R. Oliver and Judson Cobb. The
role of Chanoch, the Chief
Temple Guard, was interpreted
by James Dickerson.
Stephen Manes, who is un¬
dergoing an apprenticeship to
Dr. Gilbert, and who is being
groomed as the old master’s
successor in the field of the re-
1 gious drama, played the role
of Messiah, and displayed rare
talent and the application of
severe training, as well as a
proper emotional insight into
h s playing of the role of our
Lord, by his superb interpreta¬
tion of the institution of the
Lord’s supper.
All of this service, being
built around the theme of tne
drama, was supported by a vast
chorus of over 100 vo ces, un-
der the baton of Prof. Elmer
Rajiah Ruffner, minister of
music for the host church, with
t durlng t he dramatization,

MR. JAMES LOCKWOOD
who departed this life one
year ago, August 12, 19*18.
Since you went first and I re
main,
To walk tne road alone,
I’ll 1 ve in memory’s garden,
dear,
With happy days well known.
In spring I’ll wait for roses
red,
When fade th" liliies blue,
In early fall when brown leaves
call,
I’ll catch a glimpse of you.
Since you went first and I re¬
main.
One th ng I’d have you do,
Walk slowly down the pain ol
death.
For soon I’ll follow you.
I’ll want to know each step
yofi take,
That I may take the same,
For some day soon down that
lonely road,
You'll hear me call your name.
Eternal rest grant unto him,
O Lord, and let perpetual light
shine on them. May his soul
and the souls of, all the faith¬
ful departed, through the mer¬
cy of God rest in peace.
Gone but not forgotten.
